Question for co-sleepers

Would you recommend a pack n play with bassinet attachment or a co-sleeper like arm's reach? Also how did your SO deal with sleeping? DH keeps saying he will be fine with LO in the room with us, but I don't know. He does sleep hard and we live in a studio apartment right now (moving in August) and he's never woken up even when I've had the TV on. But I don't turn lights on, and would obviously need that to change diapers etc. I'll be a SAHM and don't want to ruin his sleep!

Re: Question for co-sleepers

  • Um I have the crib in our room but we also have LO sleep in our bed I EBF which makes it way easier to not need a light I latch him on and go back to sleep :)

  • DH has been fine with our cosleeping.  We started LO in an arms reach co-sleeper but had to transfer him to the bassinet about 2 weeks ago.  I prefer the arms reach because you don't have to get out of bed to get baby and I liked having him close to me.  However, if you have a small bed it will take up a lot of room.  Also, if you have a big baby s/he will grow out of it fast.  That's why we transfered to the bassinet when LO was just over 5 weeks.

ETA: reference the light issue, I would recommend a night light as long as you can sleep with some light (or a sleep mask) because then you don't have to turn on the light and wake up LO or yourself more.

  • My SO has learned to sleep through whatever I'm doing with LO. I pump and that doesn't wake him up. I don't turn the overhead light on. I just use a small night light. I can pump, feed and change LO with that. I have the arms reach mini co-sleeper and I dig it. I feel like it is easier for co-sleeping than a pack and play because I don't have to reach over the side of something then pick LO up from above. I just reach next to me.
  • We also have an arms reach mini co-sleeper. We really like it and it is so easy with breastfeeding. As far as the light issue, we got a dimmer for the nightstand lamp. This has worked out great for us bc I have to have total darkness to sleep, so we can have some light without turning it all the way on then turn it off completely when we are done.

The Arms Reach works great for us, and I like that it can convert to basically a pack and play when you don' t need it attached to the bed anymore. We used it with DD for nearly two years in one form or another, and are now using it again for DS.

  • I've used both the PNP bassinet and the Arm's Reach Mini. I recommend the Arm's Reach, without hesitation.

With DD1 I used the PNP, but that's really just a playpen with a 'bassinet feauture'. The bottom isn't terribly level, firm, or sturdy, and even the special PNP sheet isn't as snug as it should be. Plus, the PNP itself is huge, and took up a ton of room bed-side. BUT, I used it for 3mos and it was OK.

But, with DD2 I got the AR Mini, and LOVE it. Compact, firm sleeping surface, snug sheet over the waterproof pad, mesh on all  sides... Love it.

As for DH, he's back in our master and I'm in DD2's nursery (formerly our guest BR). He slept w/us for the time he was on paternity leave, but he's a police officer, and I wasn't comfortable sending him to work with insufficient sleep. When he WAS with us, he STTN regardless of what the LOs were doing, or how often we woke up, lights/on or off...
