Ds has been doing this the past few nights. He nurses a long time on each side, I keep him awake during it and change his diaper between sides, so that he wakes up enough for the next side, so I know he is getting a good amount to eat.
When it comes time to put him down in his bassinet, he starts to move around/grunt, etc. and his eyes become wide open. I KNOW he is tired, because he had been up for quite some time and very cranky. I end up having to use the pacifier and going in there multiple times to calm him or put the paci back in.
Why is this happening all of a sudden? I've got a long trip coming up with both kids and it just going to be me in a hotel room at night with both kids trying to get them to sleep and continue with the baby throughout the night. How the heck am I going to do it? I'm stressing sooooo much right now, I feel sick to my stomach.
Re: Why/How on earth do they learn to "fight" sleep at this young age?
dito..DD seems to only sleep when I hold her at night the minute I put her down she's up..and wont hold her paci in for nothing but wants it when it falls out!
I just posted about this! My 5 wk old is doing the same thing and screams and claws at the air (or me). I think they become more aware of their surroundings and are unable to turn off! On the advice of the other mommies we've been jumping on bedtime as soon as she shows any signs of tiredness. I have been trying to remove as much stimulation as possible by holding her tight in a dark room (or under the nursing cover) with the soother and rocking her until she passes out well enough to get her down. Its wearing us out. I'd love to know how long this is going to last!
For you - what if you just let your son fall asleep on the breast? (change him ahead of time). You might get a shorter sleep before he wakes for a feed but maybe he wouldn't be overtired that way?
He does do this, almost every night, but the problem with this is that he won't burp most of the time and then he wakes back up because he needs to be. It's a never ending battle. I have tried an earlier bedtime (as soon as we saw signs), but then I ended up doing the back and forth for 1.5 hours with him. I haven't tried since...lol. Maybe I should again.
