Left Breast Fail- EBF

My left breast has a lump in it that I thought was a plugged milk duct but it hasn't gone away with massaging, etc. This breast also seems to produce less milk and leaks more often. Is it normal to have one breast not produce as much as the other or could the lump be interfering (FYI- I plan to go in and get the lump looked at)?

  • have you tried applying a heating pad before feeding?  that helps me when i pump between feedings:)  i had tons of lumps in both breasts once my milk came in but they have resolved for the most part:)

Keep up with the massage as well.  Sometimes lumps are stubborn and you have to try massaging while pumping or nursing several times before they resolve.  It is very common for one breast to produce more than another even if nothing is wrong.  Also, you may have one breast that just responds better to the pump.

  • Yeah, I read that like 75% of babies prefer the right breast.  Very common!  Same with us, actually--I keep having this wierd veiny looking thing on my left side that I assume is a blocked duct.  And I produce less over there.  Don't worry-everything will be OK!  One breast could produce enough to feed your baby if all else fails.
  • When I pump I get 2 oz max from the left and about 5 from the right, I've been told it's pretty normal.  Hope the lump is nothing!

  • Thanks for the reassurance! I'm glad it's normal!
