birth certificate ? (CA)

I am pretty sure we filled out paperwork for DD's birth certificate in the hospital but we haven't gotten anything yet.  Are we supposed to do something more to get it?  We got her social security card a few weeks ago.

here (TX) we filled out the paperwork in the hospital and they submitted it for us, but we had to go pick it up at the county clerk's office.  We paid for it when we picked it up.

go to the county recorder's office or county office of vital records - they can give you a form to fill out.

you can do it by mail too, but you have to get the form notarized. when you submit the form you also have to send in a cashier's check.
