Babies: 0 - 3 Months

When did you stop swaddling? or plan to?

Just curious. There are so many things that I don't remember with ds1, but I know that when I transitioned him to his crib at 2 months, he was not swaddled any longer.

DS2 seems to like it better (although he is only swaddled halfway down and very loosely).

I swaddle DS only at night.  I plan on stopping when he either gets out of the swaddle or won't let me swaddle him any more.

This. I'm just going to take my cues from DD.

  • DS sleeps so much better swaddled.  We're slowly forming the routine of swaddled at night & during his one long afternoon nap in the crib but not during any of his other naps.

I'll prob keep doing it until he can roll over with consistency or he lets me know he doesn't like it anymore.

  • I had to swaddle DD in some form until she was 9 months old (both arms for a while, then moved to one arm out when she was about 12 weeks (so she could suck her thumb), and then both arms out when she could roll. . . but she still liked the tight blanket around her body).

  • We really only swaddled the first few nights, and now she has been sleeping in a sleep gown. I am a first time mom, should I be swaddling? She sleeps like a champ.

If she sleeps like a champ, I wouldn't change a thing!

  • We've been inconsistent about swaddling recently because it's so warm some nights, so we just have him sleep in his diaper. I'm not even sure it makes a difference.

  • I think DS1 was swaddled until about 3 months, but DS2 is over 3 months and showing no signs of needing to stop.  I plan on continuing to swaddle until he either starts rolling over, breaking loose, or not wanting it.  He does seem to need to be swaddled, and like his pacifier, a lot more then DS1 did.  DS1 transitioned great to Halo sleepsacks, and I hope DS2 does too.

  • My LO used to just be swaddled @ night.... around 6 weeks he refused to nap without being swaddled. We'll swaddle until he doesn't want it or rolls to his stomach,

  • DS sleeps so well when he is swaddled super tight.  We swaddle him at night and for both of his naps because he startles so badly that he eventually wakes himself up after only about 30 minutes.  When he is swaddled he takes two 2 1/2 hour naps during the day and sleeps for 4 hours at a time at night.  I will stop swaddling when he shows me that it's not needed anymore.

  • DD hated it so we stopped within a week of bringing her home.
