I had pumped a little last night and had about 2.5oz in a bottle for DH to use at night. He fed it to her and she still had about an ounce left so he put it back in the fridge.
My question is: Can I reuse that last ounce or do I have to discard it because it was already refridgerated and heated once?
I feel like I can use it, but probably only for today. I also selfishly want to use it because I work hard to pump all this out and feel defeated if I have to throw out breast milk. I already looked at the LLL website and they said you can reuse but there is no evidence that it is good or bad to do so. Thanks!
Re: Using breastmilk again from a previous feeding?
once it has been refrig'd and then reheated, it has a verrrrry short shelf life (an hour if i remember right). i know it sucks (i pumped too - milk is liquid gold) but you need to toss it. next time have him heat in smaller increments to prevent waste. i had to "train" dh in that practice as well.

My pedi (and nurse after delivery) told us that after one hour, we should discard. The baby is sucks and spitting back into the bottle and after an hour bacteria begins to grow. It is contaminated and should not be reused.
The pedi suggested only filling a bottle with the number of ounces of breastmilk from previous feedings, plus maybe an extra half ounce if you think they need more, to reduce to the risk of wasting BM.
You can always get more out of the fridge... but throwing away pumped milk SUCKS.
