Babies: 0 - 3 Months

For Momma's whose babies were born late.

My DD was born 2 weeks late and she seems to be doing a lot of stuff early. She already smiles and can hold her head up for brief periods of time. She is also only waking up twice a night and she is recognizing our voices and looks for us when we talk.  Is anyone else noticing this?

DD#1 is 3! And LO#2 is on his/her way! Due Feb 26th, 2014.

BFP#1: EDD 5/7/2010 born on 5/20/2010. A little girl named Emily.

BFP#2: m/c 10/29/2012 EDD was 6/21/2012 Baby Hope was 6 weeks 3 days.

BFP#3: Twin B stopped growing at 8 weeks and 5 days. Found on 8/10/2014. EDD was 2/26/2014. Twin A is still doing great and due date is 2/26/14.

  • Our DD was only 5 days late, but sometimes I think this too. It's probably just a coincidence; some kids will develop certain skills early anyway. It's fun to think ours are advanced for there age though. ;-)

  • Oh, and at 1 week old I'm pretty sure the smiling is just gas. :)

Haha. I guess I am just a proud momma. :)

  • I noticed that with DS - he has consitently been doing things at least a month ahead of when he is supposed according to this milestone chart:

He was born almost a week late.He can roll from his tummy to his back, was able to bear weight on his legs "stand" and hold my hands a few weeks ago, blew bubbles a month ago, etc.

No, because she smiles when you pretend to bit her nose.

  • Just wanted to add, I'm sure much of it is a coincidence. Many babies do some things early, and some things late - regardless when they were born.

  • DD was a week late and she is way ahead of the curve. She holds her head up, knows voices, smiles and only get up twice a night also and has been doing all of this since she was about 2 weeks old. The thought that she was late never crossed my mind as to why she is doing all this.

  • Definitely.

My DD was 38.5 weeks and she was asleep for 3.5 weeks.  Hardly woke up.

My DS was 41.5 weeks and the difference between the two of them was astounding.  He came out already awake.  Started smiling and cooing within just a few weeks.  I really think the extra development in utero did something.

That's really interesting! Our DD came out "awake" too. I didn't get to see her right away (c/s), but DH watched them pull her out (he's a brave man) and said that her eyes were already open. Crazy!

  • D already holds his head up to look at mine and DH's faces. He looks around the room, and will sit and watch tv with us for awhile when he's in his bouncer. He was born 11 days late.

  • DD was 9 days late and she's been the same way. Our peditrician even commented that she's developing like a 2 month old at this point. She's 3 weeks old now and has been cooing, can hold her head for minutes at a time (she held her head up for her newborn pictures in the hospital), recognizes voices, etc. I think it also might have something to do with being late and also because she's bigger (because she was late, even though her weight slowed down with our feeding issues).

who knows but at least that'd be a silver lining to the extra days of pregnancy we went through :)

  • My DD was born 8 days before EDD and she does that too. I think that's normal for them to do.
