Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Is it bad for a baby to stand?

DD loves to stand (with me holding her and her on my legs).  Someone told me that isnt good for her at this age and will cause her to be "Bow-legged".  I take most of the crap I hear w/ a grain of salt but I thought I'd ask the experts!

  • I was wondering the same thing. Looking forward to the responses.

  • We let her stand too, just like you do.

I've never heard before in my life it can cause issues for LOs.

  • Old wives tale.

I have a neice who "stood" all the time, she's not bow legged and it didn't delay walking at all.

  • i heard it was in jumparoos/exersaucers because the seats force their hips to turn out. never heard it for just standing because.

  • No.  It is a fairly early milestone anyways, 4 months.  So your just a little early in hitting that milestone.  My baby does this also and has been for a couple of weeks now.  She will actually almost push up to stand (basically straighten her legs out against mine).
