Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Always wants to be held

We have a 4-day old daughter who is doing really well with eating, looking around, etc. During the day though, she doesn't want to nap in her bassinet, crib, etc- she only wants to cuddle with mom or dad to nap. I would love to be able to put her down for her naps. At night (we have only been home two nights), she is a little better- she will go into her bassinet between one or two feedings and then wants to play between another one.

She is fine in her car seat for walks, etc when awake if that matters.

Any suggestions for during the day naps?

Thanks!

  • Do you have a bouncer or a swing?

  • does she have a swing? when landon's really fussy through the day and i can tell he needs to sleep and is fighting it, i let him take a nap in his swing (i don't do it more than once a day bc i want him to learn to sleep well in his crib).  a lot of people seem to have good luck with the bouncy seat, too.  you also may want to try a wrap/carrier so you can have your hands free but she can still be right there on you.  GL!

  • Hold her. She's only 4 days old. She's been "held" the last 9 months. It's all she knows. I promise you won't spoil her.

I know it seems like a nusance(sp?) but enjoy it. The chores or whatever can wait. I wish K still wanted to be cuddled. =[

If you must put her down, try swaddling, or a Moby/Baby K'tan.

  • I use a Moby wrap and often let DS nap in it while I'm watching tv, shopping, or whatever.  I even went to the movies with him napping in the Moby.
  • I didn't read all the responses, but I recommend investing in a good baby wrap/carrier.  NB's want held, A LOT, this is 110% normal.   I didn't know it as a first-time Mom either, but I quickly learned and I also learned its only a phase and it will eventually pass.  However, I highly recommend a baby carrier (Moby, Sling, etc.) to get you through these first few months; yes, I said "months."  I also suggest reading/watching "Happiest Baby on the Block."  You can also enlist the help of others, i.e. friends & family; no one can resist holding a NB.  HTH!!

This!I I miss those days when that is all LO wanted. I was so sore from my episiotomy too that it was a reminder to me to take it easy since both of us had gone thru so much. 1ht. Enjoy it while you can!

  • 4 days old? Hold her! She obviously needs the comfort right now. It will be over before you know it and then you will miss this time.

It's called the 4th trimester. They're in a new, strange place and want to be somewhere warm, cozy and familiar.

I think it's pretty normal at the beginning. They were so use to hearing your heatbeat and being close to you all the time. DS would mostly sleep on us for the first week or two but after two weeks he started sleeping in his bassinet. Try swaddling too, this helps because it makes them feel nice and secure.

  • thanks and i love loving on her but thought i would get uggestions. she doesnt like the bouncer yet but i am sure she will

  • Do you swaddle? She probably just wants the tightness of swaddling.

    This worked wonders for us:
