For those exclusively formula feeding...question

Hi ladies,

I am finally home today after delivering my little girl Tuesday night via C-Section.

I am formula feeding and could use some advise on what to do about when the milk comes in.  I only have one functioning breast (left one) and today it's sore and HUGE.   Doc said tight bras and ice packs?   When do I start that?   Any other advise?
Please help.

thanks

  • I wrapped myself with ace bandages and that seemed to work.  I was told to do this at night, too.  Remember to face away from the shower head when you shower.

  • I did the ace bandages and a sports bra.  Ice packs will help relieve the pain.  I was told cabbage leaves help, but didn't try it myself.

Wear a tight bra or ace bandage...when you're sleeping too. Back to the shower (no stimulation) and the thing that worked the most for me was cabbage. Chill the cabbage head in the fridge, take a leaf and stick it in your bra until it wilts. Then do it again if you want. Something in the cabbage draws the heat from the boobie and makes them shrink way faster. I delivered on a Tues...my boobs were rock hard and grew two size bigger by Thurs...it really sucked. You may even feel like you are getting sick and run a slight fever. Don't worry...it only lasts a few days!
  • Oh yes doc mentioned cabbage too I will buy a head of cabbage and try that tomorrow - thanks for the reminder.

And good to know it only lasts a few days....phew!

    Thanks!!

Yeah dealing with the milk coming in was the worst part of having a baby. I was prepared to deal with Labor, Pushing, etc however no was prepares you for having swollen boobs for a few days (that are just huge and so uncomfortable). It even hurt me to put my newborn daughter on my chest. It started for me 4 days after being home then lasted about 4 days till I was completly better (prob 2 really bad days and then 2 that were better). I had motrin 800 pills in the house already so i took that to help with the pain. I was told in the hospital to take 3 motrin which would be 600mg so i 1up'd it myself..
