Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Is this normal for a 3 day old?

I know newborns sleep a lot and he sleeps all the time, but I have to wake him to eat, he doesnt hardly ever wake up when I change his diaper.......nothing really makes him cry....Im not complaining at all, I just want to make sure that is normal for a newborn...

Also sometimes he lets his limbs just fall and like go limp....is this normal?

  • Yes, very normal.  Babies are very sleepy the first few weeks.

yep. i would have to undress her down to her diaper and put a wet washcloth to her to get her to wake up enough to eat. it can be nerve racking, but its normal :)

  • Totally normal. Keep waking every 4 hours to eat and SLEEP WHEN HE SLEEPS! Smile
  • Well, in our case it was ok in the end but not normal. He had jaundice and was born early. Are you breastfeeding? We were (still are) and he didn't stay awake long enough to really eat enough. I was pumping and bottle feeding after each feeding to make sure he was eating enough. I think it is important to keep monitoring his weight gain if he falls asleep during feedings.
