Pumping help

My child is a month old and she is currently eating around 3.5 oz. When I pump, some days I get 2-4 oz on one side and just about 2 oz on the other- Why isn't my milk increasing?  Is it normal for one side to express more milk than the other?

Also, I think one of my ducts are clogged- I feel like I have a mass inside my boob (just noticed two days ago) and its sore to touch.

I just wish I wasn't so tender/uncomfortable with the girls...is this normal?

Re: Pumping help

  • Try to pump longer to increase supply - even if it is just 5 - 7 min.  totally normal for one to put out more.

  • I have a whole milk and 2% side :) I can only get like a 1/2 ounce out of my left (I nurse and pump after) and I can get 2.5 out of my right.
  • I've been taking More Milk Plus and it's definitely given my milk supply a boost. Also, when you're pumping, when you stop flowing and get to the drip stage, go another 2 minutes.

  • when i was EP'ing my left breast put out a lot more milk than my right-- never was really sure as to why.  the best thing to do for a clogged duct is to pump more & nurse, as well as massage and use heat/cold compresses.  this should help your supply too.

  • I was just like that- my supply increased when he was about a month and a half. Keep pumping!
