Dumb question about poop explosions

DS is about 9 lbs and wears Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive in the newborn size. For the past week, every time he has a big poo, it leaks out the side of his left leg. Does this mean we should switch to size 1? It seems like bigger diapers will equal looser elastic which will mean more leakage... But maybe the newborns are just too small to hold all that poop? I don't know. What do you think?

Agree - try switching.  Not sure why - but DD leaked through tighter diapers / less leaks when we moved up a size.

That's the reason we went up a size...too many blowouts!  She still has them from time to time but they are fewer and farther between.

I switched DS around nine pounds. He was peeing right out of the newborns.

DD is just over 7 lbs and is already in size 1s because of blowouts that were happening daily - sometimes more than once. She's been in them for 5 days with only 1 blowout so far.

Time to move up a size.  When DS moved up we maybe would get a blow out once a week if that.  Much better than the couple of times a day.
