Constipation + rectal thermometer

DS is constipated. I may have to go the rectal thermometer route, but before I do, I've gotta ask: what should I expect? Will there be a massive poop explosion once I put the thermometer in? Or, does it take some time? Thanks!

haven't tried this but from what I've heard it takes times.  I've always given our DS prune juice and that works in few hours.

Also, our pedi told us to try a teaspoon of dark karo syrup (in baking aisle) in a bottle once a day. It's an old home remedy for constipation and works within a day or so.  Themometer never worked for us so far
