I brought a few different outfits just in case. However, most newborn sizes (depending on the brand) fit most average to larger babies just fine. I wouldn't pack too much though, because trust me you won't need half of it.
Yes, I would suggest a few things. Not just for size (although a few options is a good idea), but also in case LO dirties an outfit. We had several and it was a good thing because DD puked immediately on our first choice outfit and we had to change her into another outfit. You definitely don't want to be left with no options.

I would...we had to stop at Wal-Mart on the way home to buy a few premie outfits. Adi was 6lbs 4oz at discharge, and the newborn size was too big. But don't go crazy, they grow FAST! Now he's out of premie, out of NB, and into 0-3 (except gerber, most of those are small)...Some of the NB outfits he didn't even get to wear, and he's only 5 weeks!

I don't know when you are due, but also be prepared for strange weather. DS was due in Sept. and seasonally it would be about 60-70 here. We had a last heat wave and it was 95 the day he came home so the outfit we planned so carefully for was way too warm. I'm glad I threw in an extra onesie.
