Putting LO down when drowsy

I'm trying this for the first time. I usually rock him to sleep then put him in his crib. It's been 30 minutes since I put LO in his crib and he is still awake. Is there a time that is too long for me to leave him there awake? He isn't crying and seems content.

Re: Putting LO down when drowsy

  • If he isn't crying, then I would let him be. I'm not able to put ds2 down like this without a paci in his mouth and even then that doesn't always work. I'm jealous!

  • leave him be-- it's a good thing.  our pedi actually recommended putting him down awake so he learns to fall asleep on his own, as long as he's not crying.

  • LO always wakes up at 4 AM, I pump while i feed him. The problem is, he is not at all tired after this feed for some reason. Instead of trying to force him to fall asleep, I put him in his crib and I go lie back down. He always falls asleep after awhile, because he never cries to be picked up. He gets entertainment from his mobile, I get the sleep I need to make it through the work day.

  • 20 minutes is typical for babies to fall asleep.

I would also recommend getting a sound machine or something (we have a fisher price aquarium). DD loves the music on it and it lulls her to sleep every single time.

  • i agree with pp. let LO be unless he is crying. he will eventually fall asleep on his own, and that will be great!
