Babies: 0 - 3 Months

new with questions!

Hi ladies-

I am new on this board, just had my son, James Forest, on Monday, May 24, via c-section. I had to have one because I wasnt dilating past 6 cm.

Just wanted to introduce myself!

Also, I hope you can help answer some questions (already!!)

1. My feet are swollen more than during pregnancy! Has this happened to any of you? Will they ever go down??

2. How long does it typically take to recover from a section. It still hurts bad when I get up or sit down. Not the incision, but my insides. I am taking pain medication regularly.

3. I had preg-induced carpel tunnel, and that hasnt gone away yet. Any info??

Other than all that, baby and I are doing great! Last night was our first night home, and we slept a whole 4 hours (not consecutively). Hoping for 4 hours and 5 minutes tonight. :)

Thanks in advance!!

Re: new with questions!

  • Congrats!

To your first question - I had this...it went away around 2 weeks PP.  Apparently it is very common and can last up to 4 weeks says my doctor.

    I can't answer anything else!

  • hello & welcome! :)

    1. My feet are swollen more than during pregnancy! Has this happened to any of you? Will they ever go down?? i was super swollen in the hospital and about a week afterwards.  it will go away-- just make sure to drink lots of water to flush your system and take walks when you can.  this will also help with the pain from your section.

    2. How long does it typically take to recover from a section. It still hurts bad when I get up or sit down. Not the incision, but my insides. I am taking pain medication regularly. i'm still sore when i overdo it but the soreness should fade in a week or two.  keep up with your pain meds and rest rest rest.

    3. I had preg-induced carpel tunnel, and that hasnt gone away yet. Any info?? i had it towards the in and mine went away right away.  i think there was a post on this yesterday, actually!

  • To your first question, Yes its normal my feet were so swollen it hurt all the time. If I rested for a while with my feet up they would feel better but once I was up again it would come right back. It took about 2 weeks for it to go away.

  • Hi mama!  Congrats on your LO!  My DS is also a James, although we are calling him LJ since he is a IV.

    Anyway...I can help with 1 and 2:

    1. My feet are swollen more than during pregnancy! Has this happened to any of you? Will they ever go down??I couldn't believe how swollen my feet and legs got.  Yes, it completely went away about 8 days after my c/s.  I couldn't even wear shoes home from hospital or to our first doctor appointments!2. How long does it typically take to recover from a section. It still hurts bad when I get up or sit down. Not the incision, but my insides. I am taking pain medication regularly. I felt better about 2 weeks later.  Try not to do too much, walk too much, don't lift anything heavier than the baby.  On days that I did the stairs more than twice (we live in a TH) I really felt it.  Just rest and relax and enjoy the quiet time with your LO!

Hope you get some sleep tonight!

I had this on my last day in the hospital and one day at home.  I got two different answers from drs, one, doing too much or not doing enough.  I went with doing too much, took a break and they went back down.

    2. How long does it typically take to recover from a section. It still hurts bad when I get up or sit down. Not the incision, but my insides. I am taking pain medication regularly.

I started to feel back to normal around 2 weeks.  I was walking back up to full pace and wasn't tiring as much.  The achy feeling went away and I didn't feel it every time I got in and out of bed.

  • Hi! I've never posted before but I relate to your situation so much, I couldn't just keep lurking!

    1) I was crazy swollen in the last few weeks of my pregnancy and expected it to go away afterwards.  Apparently the IV fluid from the c-section makes the swelling worse though.  It did finally go away - at my 2 week appointment, I was MUCH better.  I remember being so happy that I could see the tendons in my feet again.

     2) My pain wasn't so bad, I went down to just taking Motrin once I got home, and then mostly just at night.  Getting up and down was a struggle for several days, but in the second week I was taking short walks around the neighborhood.  Just take it slow.

    3) I had this and it drove me crazy.  It was still present at my 2 week appt and I was getting nervous that I'd have to some sort of surgery to fix it, but my dr told me he'd never had anyone not get over it.  And sure enough, by about the 5th week pp, it was completely gone.

Congrats on your new baby boy!
