Budreax's Butt Paste vs. Desitin vs. Something else?

So, we're trying to set up the diaper bag, changing station for downstairs and the nursery - but, we don't have any diaper rash cream...

What is the best choice??

Aquaphor all the way... it can be put pretty much anywhere.  I use it on all of my daycare kiddos and my DS (it is the only thing that has ever worked for any of their diaper rashes).

  • we always loved the butt paste! it worked great for dd and doesn't smell at all, some of the products stink
  •  I am a first time mom but my sis swears by the buttpaste so thats what we got:)
  • My mom thinks A&D is the best.

I received some Butt Paste and some desitin at my shower and I'll prob buy A&D so I have  a little of each.

I know desitin stains clothes...and that alone makes me nervous. My SIL ruined jeans bc of it! Not sure aboutthe others though

  • I am a big fan of Desitin. I have tried the clear ones (like A&D, or the kind you get from the hospital) but I just don't think that they work as well as the creamy ones. Not sure if I have tried Butt Paste. Once I tried Desitin I never went back! It's fabulous! Used it for DD1 and plan to use it for DD2 as well :-)

  • Butt paste is great but smells weird to me.  Aquafor is AWESOME and so is Desitin Creamy...IMO
  • I got Desitin and Anti-Monkey Butt Cream as gifts.  The Monkey Butt smells really good and is kind of a pink-ish color.  Kinda smells like baby lotion.
  • I've had a lot of recommendations for the Butt Paste. We have gotten that and desitin as gifts.

  • We used Boudreaux's for our son when he was an infant.  It worked ok.  Later I discovered Desitin Creamy and think its better.  It just works well for us and doesn't stick to his skin like some of the others.

THIS! It's what the hospital sent home with us after DS's circumcision! We never stopped upsing it!

  • Count me in for Aquaphor.  We used to use Method brand stuff and some Desitin, but after his first diaper rash, pediatrician recommended Aquaphor and we have been using it for that ever since.  We were already using it for dry skin, eczema, etc.  GREAT STUFF!

  • we bought one tube of each kind they had at the store. This way, if LO is allergic to one kind, we can try another, see what works best.
  • I hate all of them.  I use something called Lysine that comes in a little bottle.  It's kind of like Vaseline but I don't know where you can get it at the store because my SIL always gives it to me but I think you can buy it online.  If I'm out of that I use lanolin that I have left over from when I was BFing.

My mom thinks A&D is the best.

My mom busted out a tube of A+D when Desitin wasn't working out. It immediately made a difference for my DD.

I think you are just going to have to try a few and see what works best for your LO.

  • I've used Butt Paste, Desitin (overnight & Immediate relief), and A&D.  When DD had the worst rash ever, which was just a few weeks ago, only Desitin (both kinds) worked best.  I've never tried Aquaphor, although I have some.  I plan to have all on hand again for DS's arrival.
  • I plugged a bunch of different brands into https://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/ - and tried to figure out which ones are safest.  I registered for Aveeno and Baby Organics.

  • I think different creams work different for each kid.

I go for the lower chemical ones.....I liked California Baby...but if DS had any bit of reddness, he would scream when I put it on.  I think A&D works good to help prevent it on DS.....but doesn't work so well to get rid of if.  Burt's Bee and Butt Paste work the best on DS to get rid of it.

  • Desitin has always worked for DS, and he has fairly sensitive skin.
  • I second aquaphor!!!  It's the best!

  • Butt paste only made DD worse, we have had sucess with triple paste. Clears up her rash fast.

We really like natural products, so we decided to register for Burt's Bees Baby Bee Diaper Ointment. They sell it at Target.

Can't remember if you are cloth diapering... but I remember reading that any creams or such will ruin the absorbency, and cause beading of fluids for cloth diapers. (The reason I registered for the flushable liners.)

  • Aquaphor or Dr. Smiths...the others are icky.
