Babies: 0 - 3 Months

sometimes my MIL just irks me

I'm talking with DH just now and earlier today MIL came over to watch DS while I went to the dentist. After I got back she hung out for a while and we were just chit-chating. Then I had to go to work and DH came home from work (he works 1st I work 2nd). So sounds like she stayed a little after I left and hung out with DH. I was talking with DS and one thing I do (he loves) is he "stands" on my belly and I'm holding his ribs and he leans forward and i kinda swing him from side to side and say " I'm a monkey oohh oohh" He loves it and i get smiles out of him when I do it. Well MIL told DH that if a baby is standing like that too much they will become bow-legged.

Where is the medical evidence of this? She also told me that when a babies lips and surrounding area turn dark it means they have to burp. She's so full of crap sometimes but she believes it 100%. All she does is burp DS when she holds him, she can't just sit and enjoy him she has to burp him, constantly!

  • Haha, my mom made this comment about bow legged too.  Old school thinking for sure.  :)

  • Mine keeps telling me to give LO a bottle of water because it's so hot out. 2 issues...I'm breastfeeding so there are no bottles and the whole water being toxic to babies under 4 mos...  I'm terrified if I leave him alone with her for too long she'll do it anyways!!  Atleast the MIL's mean well...

  • Our pedi told us to be careful of allowing DD to put too much weight on her legs right now as they are fully strengthened yet and it would be easy for her to break a bone or pull a mucle.  But I haven't heard of the bow legged thing.

Cant stop laughing!!! My mother keeps asking me to ask the ped if I can give my 2 week old water because it's soooooo hot outside. She looks at me like I'm crazy when I told her you cannot give babies bottles of water. OMG!!! LOL
