The peditrician told us at our last visit that he should be going daily. So, she advised to give him some pedialyte. The pedialyet seemed to be working until Wednesday. And then today he is so fussy today - Im sure he is in pain - has anyone else had this?

Re: 6 week old hasn't had a bowel movement in almost 48 hours...
Do you bottle or breastfeed? This makes a difference.
My DD is 10 weeks old. At about 6 weeks old she stopped going as much. In fact there was a time she didn't go for 5 days. This week she went Monday, Tuesday and she went today. So that was 3 days without going. She also usually doesn't poop on the weekends I noticed.
Breast feeding babies can go days without pooping.
Good Luck.
Is your LO formula fed or breast fed?
My daughter is BF, and didn't go for a record 5 days!! We finally used the rectal thermometer trick, but our pediatrician said sometimes BF babies go for a long time without a poop. Now, she's back to her every other day schedule.
Rectal thermometer really worked for us!
This has happened to us. We FF - the doc said to call in if DS went 4-5 days w/o pooping. (Granted, this shouldn't be the case ALL the time, but it happens from time to time.) Sure enough on day 5 we had a poopsplosion.
FWIW- be careful with Mylicon. We were giving it to DS for gas and it ended up being the cause of his constipation. Once we stopped using it, no more poop problems!
This!

DS is BF, and he started going once every few days very early on, at like 2 weeks old. We have been assured over and over again that it is normal. I would not worry about 48 hours if LO does not seem to be bothered by it. We never try to fix what isn't broken by using meds or the rectal thermometer trick.
Be prepared though- The next one will be a huge blowout.
Our son used to go about once a week-he was breastfed. Our doctor said that she went by the rule of 8's for breastfed babies-they can go up to 8 times per day or once every 8 days! Our daughter is trying to get on the same pooping schedule as our son was which is alright with me. Less poop to change!
