Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Question about pumping and storage....

I am trying to pump some so my DH can feed LO.  I can only pump a little at a time and I know it's not enough to fill for what my baby needs in a feeding.

My question is: can I pump into a bottle, refridgerate or freeze the bottle, and then add to it from a later pumping?  Kinda like I'm layering.  My mom says I can, but I'm not sure I can keep adding to it like that.  Thanks for any help.

  • combine milk that is the same temp, so if you have some in the fridge, refrigerate the new BM before adding it. If you have some at room temp, you can combine fresh BM with that.

  • Here is a really great website about BM storage. It tells you how long you can keep BM. I know you are asking if you can add to older milk,  but I think you might find some great information on this website! I sure did! :)

Yes, you can layer but only at the same temp.  So if you're saving up to freeze a batch, put each bottle into the fridge until you have enough then combine and freeze.
