Babies: 0 - 3 Months

For those with babies 14+ lbs- feeding ?

I currently breastfeed for the most part, but I give LO a bottle of pumped milk 1-2 a day since I'll be going back to work soon. She takes about 4 1/2 ounces from the bottle. Does that seem like enough? She currently weighs 14 and half pounds. How many ounces do you give your LO?

  • I would say if she's 14+ pounds, she's probably eating enough. 4.5 ounces sounds about right to me. Our LO is 15.5 pounds and eats 4-5 ounces when he takes a bottle.

  • That's a lot.

My son only took 4 oz at the most from a bottle every 2-3 hours from 3-7 months (15-20ish lbs).  Most babies are overfed from bottles.  BM changes with baby's age to meet their needs w/o having to consume much more volume.  I would check out the kellymom info on this-- it's good and even has a calculator.

  • What does your pediatrician say about her weight?

  • DS is almost 16 pounds, and we make him 5 oz. bottles every 2-3 hours when he is ready to eat.  He sometimes takes the entire thing and sometimes will leave an ounce or two.  I think you're fine at 4.5 oz.

  • They are very happy about her weight. She was over 9 lbs when she was born, so she was always a big girl

  • Sounds fine to me. DD is 13 lbs. and takes 4 oz every 2-3 hours. At night she can eat up to 6 before bed but will then sleep a very long stretch. Every baby is different and if your LO is hungry and isn't throwing it up then I think it is good.
