belly button care help

My pedi said not to do anything, but it is hanging on by a thread and looks a little goopy underneath.  Any advice?  He is 13 days old...

Re: belly button care help

  • Use an alcohol swab or dip a q-tip in alcohol and rub it around the goopy part. That'll dry it out and help it fall off quicker.

  • My pedi just said warm water and soap and dry immediately. LO's stump never looked "goopy" You may want to call your pedi to make sure it's not infected.
  • Same thing happened to us. I called our pedi and the nurse said to clean it with alcohol once and let it air dry and still leave it alone after that...still no bath until the "goopy" part heals
  • I've usually read to apply alcohol with a q-tip, but read on parents.com to use soap and water instead.

I was not doing anything to my sons either, but when it got to the point that you LO's is at, I asked and they said to start using alcohol to dry up the underneath.
