i read the pregnancy books but i didn't have a baby book until she got here and I got Your Baby's First Year Week by Week. It's come in handy sometimes when I've had questions and encourages me to try new things with DD.
I browsed the What To Expect The First Year in my 9 month of pregnancy. It was interesting, but since he's been born I haven't even looked at it once for help or info.
Not really....However-get Baby 411, it's the greatest book ever! I also read most of the happiest baby on the book (you can also watch the dvd), which helps DD to sleep. Otherwise, I read/skimmed a few but don't remember anything that I read ;-)

DH and I watched The Happiest Baby on the Block on DVD (checked it out from the library)...definitely helped DH feel more confident about knowing what to do when DS cries.
- The Baby Book by Dr Sears. This is really more a reference book than anything - it is huge.
- Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child - didn't read all the way thru, but much of it.
I think that is it. If you are going to BF you might want to get a book just for that - Nursing Mother's Companion or the like. The nurses were chock full of info, too.
What to Expect the First Year; Your Baby's First Year Week by Week; Nursing Mother, Working Mother; plus anything else that looked interesting that I found at the library. I like to read anyway and think it's interesting to get different views on things. I still look at What to Expect and the Week by Week one.
read a breastfeeding book that was given out from my hospital, forgetting the name of it
i read a ton on pregnancy and birth, but didn't really read much on the whole baby thing....too many methods or rules....and i feel that each baby has its own personality and I didn't want to parent by rules if they didn't work for my baby....so i didn't spend much time on it. I signed up for weekly emails for development stuff, but that has been it really
I read Happiest Baby on the Block. It's about calming crying babies using the 5 S's (Swaddling, Side/Stomach, Shush, Swing and Suck). It was SUPER helpful, and works like a charm for my baby.
I also got The Baby Book by Dr Sears. It's kind of a "baby manual" and has a ton of information for a baby's first few years.
