do you make popcicles for LO?

DD was given a popcicle at daycare and she liked it so much she cried when it melted and they had to give her a second one.  I'd like to be able to give her a treat here too now that the weather is nice and we can take it outside.

What do you make them with- any neat flavor ideas?  DD doesn't get juice but I was thinking diluted juice or maybe pureed something with gelatin or yogurt but I wonder if they are softer and break funny into chocking pieces for a toddler.  I think she'll get the idea of of popcicle but I'm pretty sure she will be a sticky mess whatever I give her because that is how so many meals still are....

  • For quick, easy ones I freeze Go-Yurts and then Eva just squeezes them.  For actual popsicles, I puree some yogurt and berries and then freeze that in popsicle molds.  Last summer my sister bought some mini-popsicles at Wegmans that the kids loved- they were only about 2 inches high- perfect size for toddlers (but full of sugar!).

  • We drink smoothies all the time so I just freeze the leftovers. Usually we have strawberries, blueberries, plain yogurt, banana, spinach, little bit of juice, etc.

  • I make all kinds of popcicles!  Fruit smoothy ones are really good with like yogurt, berries and some orange juice for a sweetener.  Also make juice pops, sometimes for something different I will buy bright colored gatoraid and freeze it half full of colored gatorade then the other half a different colored juice.  Ty always likes the half/half colors.
  • Also pedialyte makes a push pop or you could just use the jug to make your own popsicles (less sugar than regular popsicles)

The kids I watch thinks they are gross, I have tried to give them the push pops when they were sick! Even the 3 yr old wouldn't eat them!

Really?  I think they are good lol!  My favorite is the purple one :)

I mean, compared to the sugary regular ones they are not as good and kinda salty.  But I think if a kid isn't used to other kinds they may like them ok.
