LO is a week and a half and he is having really dry skin. I have been putting Johnson's lotion on him twice a day and he still gets all "peel y" and dry. Do you think this is too much lotion? Should I do a third coat of lotion?
They're skin peels off at this age no matter how much lotion you use. My doc told me not to even use lotion the first few weeks because it's natural and lotion could hinder the process.
My little one has dry skin too and my first has been dealing with eczema since birth. My pedi. said no to lotion, even Johnsons. We are washing with just water for now. Soap is drying and the perfumes in the lotion are no good. The pedi said that unscented lotions have additional chemicals in them to make them unscented. They should say perfume free not unscented.
That is just what our doctor said. Yours may say something different.
I've been told no lotion for the first month to give LO's body a chance to develop the natural oils and stuff. Nurses in the hospital said to put a bit of lanolin (like nipple cream) on if there's redness or cracking, but general dryness and flaking is normal.

Like the other posters said, unless LO is itchy, then don't use any lotion. I was also told that the Lansinoh lanolin could be used if red, itchy.
My daughter developed ezcema and our pedi told us to use Cetaphil Gentle Skin cleanser when we bathe her and Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream (you should use when your LO is older). Try the cleanser, it may relieve some of the dryness and you won't have to use lotion.
Re: Dry Skin?
THANK YOU!! He really really hates lotion and I couldn't imagine doing more of it.
