Newborn diaper question

How long do they stay in this size? We are almost out of newborn diapers. LO is 7lbs 1oz right now. We have TONS of size 1 diapers. I'm not sure when they move into that size though, it only says up to 14lbs. So, should I have DH buy newborn diapers on his way home, or should I use the size 1? I wish they had starting sizes on the packages too! Thanks ladies :)

Re: Newborn diaper question

  • our size 1's say they start at 8lbs. we starting using them when the newborn diapers were snug in her waist and on her thighs. it was around 9lbs for her though.

  • my dS was 7.9 lbs at birth so he wasn't in the newbord diapers too long.  I think he was in it for couple weeks and started leaking so we moved him to size 1.

  • My LO is over 8lbs and still in NB.  We tried the size 1 for a day but they were massive on her.  I'll keep her in NB until she out grows them.
  • If the NBs feel/look tight around her belly and thighs it's time to move up to a larger size. Since you have a ton of size 1's try one on LO and see how it fits. If it's gigantic have DH pick up another pack of NBs.

  • Ditto PPs (about the trying one on).  We didn't switch until DS was a little more than 9 lbs.

  • My LO was in newborn diapers for about a month. They went up to 10 lbs. I switched to size 1 from Nature Babycare (8-12 lbs) when he was about a month old / 9 lbs 3 oz. Then I went to size 1-2 from Costco (up to 15 lbs). I think the Costco diapers are still a smidge big now (he's 10 lbs 8 oz) but they don't leak or anything. Now I'm just trying to use what we have so I can cloth diaper full time.
  • I asked this same question the other day.   My DS was 8.4 lbs when born and is almost 3 weeks old and is still in NB diapers.  I tried the size 1 and they still seemed to big on him.  You could try the size 1 on your LO and see how they fit.
