By far the dumbest argument on here

Well my mom, gma, Abe Lincoln did it and their kids turned out fine.

If you use that argument, just tattoo the word "ignorant" on your forehead and be done with it

  • Agreed.  If you want to do something a certain way that is against what is now recommended, FINE, do it! But to use that excuse is ridiculous! Here's what I think of every time I see the SIDS argument "I put my baby to sleep on his tummy, with a blanket, and he lived!"

My mom put me on my tummy to sleep. I am still alive.

My mom put my little brother to sleep on his tummy, he died of SIDS.

So yeah, that argument makes my blood boil.

  • Yeah...if everything that was done in the past is just perfectly fine, why don't we go back to using outhouses and get rid of indoor plumbing. Sure, the job would get done but would it really be the best way to go about doing it? No.
  • AGREED!

God that is so sad.  :(

  • when people say that to my mom, her response is,

But my parents brought me home from the hospital without a carseat! And I'm alive!

  • Amen!

I always figure that it's people's way of justifying something to themselves that they know darn well is wrong.

    Drives me nuts!

Ha Ha... I think that in my head, so I'm gonna start saying it too.

  • About 10 years ago I was a waitress and I remember one of the girls saying, "My mom smoked while she was pregnant with me and I turned out fine!" (Um, that she "turned out fine" was debatable anyhow) She was saying she smoked when she was pregnant with her son too, and the girl she was talking to was agreeing with her.  My coworker and I were just looking at each other shaking our heads in disgust. Why would a person even take that chance?

    this one...

neither my mom or MIL can understand why we always have to use the carseat with DD.. "she look so unconfortable there". "it would be better to hold her.." Zip it!

  • 100% agree!!

Smoking used to be "good" for you too. So did slathering yourself in oil and sitting in the sun for hours on end.

My grandparents didn't use car seats, so does that mean I don't have to either?

  • Agreed. The ones who didn't turn out fine aren't here to speak for themselves.
  • I 100% agree.
