Does anyone else's 3 yo...

tell you that no one will play with them? We took DD to a b-day party for one of her DC friends, it was at the park. She came to me for something & mentioned that the "guys" wouldn't play with her and then moved on. She later said to me, "the guys no pay wif me; the dirls no pay wif me. It otay, it otay, I pay myselp". She didn't seem the least bit upset, just like she was relating a story. I watched them, and while they didn't directly play or interact with her, they were all just running around. She told me the same thing yesterday when I asked if she played with the kids at school. DH said he directly asked her teacher, and she said that she had played with the other kids.

I worry because her speech is not the greatest and I'm afraid it's starting to matter because she can't express herself to the other kids. And then I tell myself, she's freaking 3, what do I expect, her to organize a game of tag? Sorry, I just can't stop thinking about it.

Is she in a speech class.  If she can't comminucate, it could become an issue with her friends.  My DD is in speech theraphy and it has made a huge difference.  With her grouol of friends of preschool, that she has been in daycare with forever, it has never been an issue but with people that don't know, they used to have a very hard time understanding her.  6 months of speech theraphy has made a huge difference and she will continue the therapy in fall.  Good luck!

My son has some speech issues and it has definitely played a part in his difficulty with other kids. They struggle with this a lot, so I know how you feel. It's really hard to not make it an issue for Ben, too. Thankfully, he has some social-cognitive delays, too, so he doesn't really "get" when other kids are being mean to him. It's all fun and games for him. For me, it's definitely frustrating. I spend a lot of time helping to guide his play and talking to other kids when they're being unkind to him:(
