Dr. Kaplan

Does anyone here see Dr. Kaplan? How is she? pros/cons? Was it easy to get an appointment?

I'm thinking of changing practices, and I've been doing a little bit of research. I like to stay with Franklin Square Hospital (because of the good NICU) but both DH and I weren't impressed with our doctors lack of detecting my pre-e.

Re: Dr. Kaplan

  • Dr Kaplan delivered Collin. I love, love, love her! She is in practice with Dr Coleus. I really like both of them. They were both wonderful with giving me time to go into labor on my own (I was 2 weeks late), they listened when I explained why I thought my due date was wrong which also allowed me a little more time. They took tons of time to discuss things with me and explain their practices.

At my induction, Dr Kaplan waited as long as she could for me to progress on my own but I never did. When she did the c-section  she did double stitched (or something like that) that would make a VBAC possible. When Collin was in the NICU she bought me an extra day at the hospital to be close to him, went herself to visit him, and the first things she said when I went to get my staples removed was "How's Collin?". She already knew he had been discharged and he had only been discharged the night before.

Even though my delivery did not go the way I wanted or planned, I am confident that Drs Kaplan and Coleus did everything they could to give me the opportunity to have what I wanted. It just wasn't meant to be.

The only con I can think of is they share call with Dr Lenowitz and another I can't think of right now. They rotate days at the hospital (they were there Mon and Tues, the others there Wed and Thurs and they rotate weekends) so there is a definite chance that one of those two might not deliver you. I know the Dr whose name I can't think of is good- he delivered my niece and nephew. Dr Lenowitz I haven't met. I have heard he is a love him or hate him kind of person.

I never had any trouble getting an appointment. They also have an NP who sees OB patients through 30 weeks.

  • Thanks Lisa. I thought it was you who went to Dr. Kaplan. I'm thinking about changing to them come July. They currently don't take DH insurance, but in July we will be jumping on my insurance. I'm going to PM you.
