We just bought the Costco one for DD and have yet to assemble it. There are like 500 pieces of lumbar. Ugh. How long did yours take to assemble? How many people did you need to help? We are thinking of bribing some friends with pizza/beer to help us assemble the set. Do you have plastic bark under it to pad their falls? Rubber mats? Tumbled tree bark? Our instructions say to dig down 16 inches and to backfill with one of the above materials. Do they realize how DEEP 16 inches is? That will cost a fortune!?
Thanks!
Re: Who owns a Rainbow playset?
Not a Rainbow but similar.
My #1 piece of advice....
PAY someone to build it.
We found someone on Craigslist. He came with a crew and had the whole thing up in just a few hours.
And yes.... technically you're supposed to dig down so you can have the appropriate depth for your ground cover. We went with wood chips. We didn't go as deep as they suggested and I kinda regret it now. The spots under the swings are always bare down to the liner. That means a head injury landing under the swing would be straight to hard ground.
Do some googling and research padding/fillers. Our instruction manual for building the set came with recommendations and a website. That website explained how many inches down you needed to go based on the material you were planning to use.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
We have a ginormous Rainbow playset in our backyard (this one: https://www.rainbowdirect.com/index.php/swing-sets/package/super-rainbow-castle-package-v/ )
I can't imagine putting it together myself. Definitely worth paying someone.
And you don't need to dig down - at least not with Rainbow sets. They are made in a way that's a bit forgiving to the land you have (especially the bigger sets). They also told us that it was better to have it installed on your grass, let it settle and then put in wood chips, etc. Or, you can just leave the grass....
