WWYD: I have 1 month left of maternity leave...

Considering that this is probably my last mat leave ever, what would you do with your time?

DD has hardly been anywhere... Disneyland, zoo, etc.

Mind you, I would have to take both kids by myself since everyone I know either works or has busy older kid schedules and they prob couldn't meet me. Although my Mom could come along if need be. She's a sub-teacher.

Thanks for your ideas;)

  • My mom took me to Disneyland for my first time at around 2 1/2. She is from the West coast and says Disneyland is 100x better for little ones then Disneyworld and in her mind better altogether. lol

The Zoo would be an easy one though. My SIL and I took DD in March and she was in her stroller 90% of the time.

  • Zoo would be easy because you have a double stroller and little man will sleep most of it im sure...plus during the week it prob isnt very crowded and DD can walk around and see things while you tag along.... More relaxed walk and look kinda outing...

Or do you have an indoor local gym? I liked those when A was younger because the rooms were big enough where I could sit in one place with A while M ran around and played with everything and I could always see her....

    Local seaquarium?

Ever looked on Meetup?  They have TONS of local group in almost all areas and for SAHM's they plan wkly outings all over...this way you can go with them so you're not really 'alone'.

  • Disneyland - you are so close - go for it!
  • If you go to Disneyland solo, you have to consider how many of the rides your 2 y/o can go on alone.  Because either you're all three riding a ride or you're sending your toddler on alone.

If DD is okay with riding kiddie rides solo, including getting on and off the ride and returning to you on her own, then go for Disney.  If you think she'll need more help, I'd wait until your leave builds back up at work, then take a day off when she's more independent but the baby is still stroller-bound.

The zoo is probably a good bet any way you slice it.

  • I think a special day at the zoo sounds like the way to go, if you have to go alone. If someone else can go with you, then Disneyland, but otherwise I'd go to the zoo. Build it up a lot, make it a fun day, take a bunch of pictures and put them in a mini album so that later you can relive the day, and don't feel guilty that you didn't take your DD on 100 outings during your leave! Having this much time with you has surely been wonderful for her!
