Pre-School and Daycare

If you child has excema...please come in ASAP...

My 3 y/o has sever excema.  We have been outside the past three days with the gorgious weather...swimming, biking, going to the park.  The temps have been over 85 degrees.

My son's body is covered in red dots.  His excema has flared very badly. The past two days we have been doing the regime that was instructed by our pedi (using cetafil for soap, asnd slathering on Vanacream.  Yesterday we had to put his Protopic on (medicated lotion/steriod)...that lotion is NOT to be used on his whole body, but he is covered neck down.

It's the start of the summer....my little guy is upstairs clawaing himself from the horrible itch...we put sarna on tonight in hopes it stops the itch as well as give him Benedryl (something we have not used before for the excema)...he is scratching himself so bad he is bleeding.

What are your recommendations. (I will be calling pedi in the AM).  I just wanna hear what you have done. Does your child wear special SPF clothing?  Stay inside?  etc.  What works!  We are JUST starting to be playingo outside again after a harsh winter...there is no way we can stay inside all summer!  :0 Thanks for any advice!

  • Did he play in the grass or touch the grass?

    Is it poison ivy?

My LO has eczema and it's primarily on his face and then on the elbows and knees (behind them). His will get so bad, fast, that he gets Impetigo and we have to treat with Altabax or Mupirocin.

We give 3/4 of a tsp when his eczema flares up and he's itchy from it.

My son one time played out in the grass and that night he was all broken out on his entire leg. Not just behind his knee cap. He was very itchy, similar to what you are saying about your LO.

Do you have calamine lotion? Maybe use that to relieve the itch if you want to go that route.

My dd used to have terrible eczema. We got two steroid creams that worked really well but it was only to be used for flare ups. I can look at the names of them tommorrow since there in her room & she is sleeping.

Right now, we have only been using Curel Anti-Inch Lotion. If it turns out to be poison ivy, get some fels napha & make it into a paste and apply it all over. It's messy but it works.

  • Try Halo's Technical Comfort clothing - it's approved by the National Eczema Association.  It helps reduce itching and irritation and wick away moisture, plus has SPF 30 and keeps LO cooler when it's hot out.

  • You might talk to your pedi about giving zyrtec too - it helped DS when he had the worst eczema ever.

The dermatologist also had said it was ok to take him in the pool a couple times a week and also to get him into the sun (he had weepy oozy eczema then though)
