We start with veggies and pureed meats. Fruits are sweeter and babies tend to develop a taste for the sweet stuff, often at the expense of other foods if they haven't been offered the other stuff first.
We're going to start DS with avacado (which, okay, IS technically a fruit, but you know what I mean) in the not too distant future. Mostly because we always have some on hand.
Oh, yeah, I guess I should have said that he's been on cereal for a while now to help gain weight. Now I'm just debating what other food to start.
And I agree on the fruits comment. I mean, that's what makes sense to me - that he'd prefer the sweetness and then not want to try veggies. But I second-guessed that thought since I had so many friends telling me to start with pears.
Call me a bad mother, but when I made LO sweet potato baby food the other day ... it tasted kind of tart to me, so I added just a teeny tiny pinch of brown sugar.
We started with oatmeal for about a month and we just started this week with squash and we will try out carrots within the next couple of days! Do not start with fruits because LO will develop a sweet tooth!
I like the website wholesomebabyfood.com- and what I like is that they break down some suggestions at each month. That way it's not so overwhelming- If I start thinking about all the food out there- then I get overwhelmed and don't know where to begin.
So this breaks down some suggestings at 4-6mo, then 6-8mo, 8-10mo and so on. I plan to start with avacado- no reason- just because.
