Rubbing eyes, face, ears - teething??

DD has been rubbing her eyes, ears and face a lot as well as chewing constantly on her fist.  She has no temp and I feel like it is teething because, when she gets super upset, I give her tylenol (generic) and baby orajel & that seems to calm her down immediately.

If your LO is teething, do they rub their faces like this?  I really wouldn't be surprised if she is allergic to pollen like DH and I are...my allergies have been horrible!!

What are your thoughts?

  • DD rubs her eyes and face when she's tired, especially overtired.  But... the constant fist chewing would lead me to teething.  My guess, tired from the teething pain.

  • My pedi said that rubbing the ears is common for teething because they don't have the motor control and basically they can't aim for where they really want to rub (I'm guessing he meant the jaw or something).

Yeah, my baby definitely rubs her eyes, cheeks, and ears.  Mostly she's tired but I think it's a bit of teething in there, too.

  • For us it happens when he is tired.

IMO, the tylenol is probably immediately calming your LO because of the flavor.  We experience the same thing with gas drops and DS' reflux meds (both berry flavored).  None of these medications works instantly, just like tylenol doesn't wor instantly in adults.  Personally I would not continue giving tylenol without a fever.
