Re: Would you give your baby pop rocks??

  • Indifferent

I'm just now starting to be okay w/ DD eating hard candy, as long as she's right in front of me. Kids choking is one of my nightmares. Who knows if pop rocks would cause choking but nothing about that seems okay. And I don't think our dog would be appreciative either ;)

  • I'm much more bothered by the fact that these parents posted video of their kid online, presumably for laughs and attention, than I'm bothered by the fact that parents fed their kids a pop-rock to get the kid to make a funny face.  I don't get that whole "David After Dentist" phenomenon -- how pathetic are you if you need to wh0re your kid out that way.

That being said, I would not have given my kids pop rocks when they were babies, because sometimes pop rocks hurt when they pop.  I'm fine if they eat them now, because my kids are old enough to understand what they're getting themselves into.

In the interest of full disclosure, though, I have given both my kids lemon wedges and pickles when they were babies, just to enjoy the funny faces they made.  For some reason I was fine with this, but I would not do pop rocks, or something spicy that could hurt.

  • I agree with PP that it's weird to me that someone would put that online.

I remember giving DS a pop rock (one single little piece) at a year for his first Halloween.  He seemed to like it and giggled.

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as it's an occasional treat.
