while "bay" or "wolfie" would be cute baby nicknames - it seems a pretty horrible name to saddle an adult with - plus i'm guessing 95% of the populaion hasn't read it and you and then your child will have to continually explain it - and its not exactly a toddler friendly story.
We are naming our first boy Wolf, which is a family name on my side, but he will have a much more common middle name in case he wants to go by that. I would not choose Beowulf because it's just too much name for a person in my opinion. Maybe you could look at some similar names (although I realize the meaning would be lost) or, if you are stuck on it, use Beowulf as a middle name?

It is unique in all the wrong ways for a baby's name, IMO, but having said that, if you love it and love the significance, then why not use it as a middle name? Give your child a name that grows with them and works in real life, and a quirky - story required - middle name
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

I'm an English teacher and a lover of literature... but yikes. Don't do that to your baby. These are slightly better... Atticus, Jem, Gatsby, Holden, Marlow, Marcel, Ryder, Quentin, Cash
LOVE it! I would steal it, but I'm already naming my son Ayden Cayden-Brayden... Damn!
Ooohh I love that name. Mabye the next one can be Beowulf? We are planning on calling him Wulfi.
Cute... just too stinkin' cute. Do you even realize how regal "Beowulf" will look when you personalize everything in Little Wulfi's room with it? Squeeee!
Middle name - only because, while it is a recognizable name, it's kind of like Elvis...strongly associated to one man (yes, I know there's an Elvis Costello, but he changed his name to Elvis, so he doesn't count).
You get points for being a literature nerd and not a movie nerd though
ETA: Did I just get punked?
Crap, I did. Nicely done! I thought it was all serious because it was actually spelled right.

Being an English teacher, I, too am a literature nerd. However, Beowulf seems a bit extreme.
How about...
Harper (Harper Lee)
Ophelia (Hamlet)
Maya (Angelous)
Holden (Catcher in the Rye)
Rhett (Gone with the Wind)
...but maybe you aren't serious, I don't know. Anyhow, GL!
I am a reader too, and always wanted to name a little girl Scout. Then I realized that was a mean thing to do to a kid.
Note the dog in the siggy.
It is unusual but at least it isn't made-up like Neveah.
I think if it is a boy you should name him Beowulf and if it is a girl you should name her Grendel's Mother.

I've always liked Harper (as in Lee) for a girl
You should name your child Beowulf like I should name mine Optimus Prime.
What? DH loves Transformers.
You stole my baby name!! And here I thought I was being SO unique...

True story... I wanted to name my dog Beowoof... get it?? Beowoof!!
Ahh Snap, I feel bad for stealing your baby name! How about I'll use a nn of Opi
Yeah! I think it will be great to psychologically abuse my child. His nn will be Wulfi, if that makes it any better!
Really?? Why? I think it's *soooo* cute!
