Re: ?Mamas & Mamas to Be: Weekly Check-in?
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
4 months old as of yesterday!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
She belly laughs all the time and now things screetching and screaming is funny (it sort of is, but not at 4 a.m.!)
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
June 14 is her "four month appt." even though she turned 4 months yesterday. I guess we're a couple of weeks off because we chose to delay vaccinations when she was first born.
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?
I am continued to be amazed at how smart she is...she picks up on things incredibly quickly.
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
It continues to be returning to work. I know she's fine...she's at home with her dad and grandma, but I am having trouble. I am not crying everyday like before but I definitely still feel like it. I am hoping it's just part of the process of going back to work when you have a new baby. We shall see. FWIW, I have no other options right now so I am going to have to learn to like it.
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO?
Libby is her nickname but we call her variations of it like Libster, Libby Jo and Libbylein. I also sometimes call her Lizzybee the busy-bee
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)?
My goal is to BF at least 12 months and then see what happens. I'd love to be able to let her self-wean but we also hope to TTC#2 when she's about 16-18 months old and if BFing is preventing the full return of my fertility I'll have to consider weaning her...perhaps with the whole "don't offer, don't refuse" approach. We shall see.
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (The list of questions I have from Lisa is getting a little short so ask away!)
TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing/trying for TTC success?
Mamas: In retrospect, what BR items do you wish you didn't buy or feel you paid too much for?
Love the Tummy Tub for the first 6 weeks but she's too big for it now. I think for smaller babies it would be awesome for at least upto 12 weeks or more. But since she's off the charts for height and weight she's just not comfy in it. It was a gift, but I know it was $40 and I think we could have gotten something else for that price that we'd use more longterm. That said, I'm keeping it to use with the next baby because it really is awesome and then? Maybe it'll store bath toys or something.
I also regret buying a bunch of bottles...of course I had no idea she would reject ALL of them. I wish there were some sort of trial pack available featuring one of each type so you can test them all out and then decide which ones to buy. So...we have a slough of them that we'll be storing for the next bebe.

TTC/PG Blog | Mommy Blog
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
31 weeks, 3 days
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
Just feeling big and tired, mostly. But good, for the most part. I'll feel even better next Friday when school's out for the year!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Next Tuesday. The exciting thing is that I'm heading up to Wisconsin for my family baby shower this weekend.....yay!
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?
Not much, except that we finished our 4-week childbirth class last night. We talked about why and when a c-section happens, so that was kind of interesting.
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
Just how slow I've become. I'm constantly having the ask MH to slow down when we're walking. We are usually both fast walkers, so he and I both are having to adjust to my slower pace.
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO?
My ILs came up with "ToBe" as his nickname for now (as in the baby "to-be"). It's kind of stuck!
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)?
I'd like to BF for 6 months at least. I'm expecting it to be difficult when I return to work (at about 3 months), but I got a great pump already, and I'm going to do my best!
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (The list of questions I have from Lisa is getting a little short so ask away!)
When (if at all) did you/do you plan to introduce your baby to television/videos? What kind of videos do you use and for what purpose?
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
She's 14 weeks
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I really need to get back to the gym and start moving again as my body is SO.DAMN.STIFF.AND.SORE! I seriously can't move in the mornings and when I DO manage to get up out of bed, I walk like a zombie regaining use of it's limbs. I feel like I have arthritis or something, this can't be normal. Sometimes, my back gives out too and I can't walk. So...I need to start stretching and moving again and hopefully that will nip this pain in the bud (when I stretch, it helps).
Samara has been giggling for the past month now. I am SO utterly in love with this little girl. She sleeps a lot still and when she's awake, she is cascading smiles upon us. A lot of the time, she smiles so hard and rolls herself into this little ball and it's like she is about to implode with happiness.
I swear, sometimes I can almost see this golden light inside of her. She's the happiest person I have ever met. I have never known anyone quite like her.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
She will see the maternal health nurse at her 4mth appointment (in about 2 weeks time).
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?
Can't say I've learnt anything new this week.
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
I'm still trying to find a good balance between paying a good amount of attention to Maya and Samara. I still feel like I'm not paying either child enough attention.
Maybe it'll always feel this way.....? Well, if past lessons are anything to go by, this period will pass too.
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO?
'My happiness'. When she smiles, they're 'sunbursts'.
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)?
Will feed her for a year. After that, I'll see.
I fed Maya for 2.2 years...so, I'll go with the flow and see when Samara will b/f until....
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? I think 25 weeks...I'd have to check my ticker...pg brain, I guess!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? feeling good, but I do feel like I get an inch bigger everyday. I feel the baby move all of the time & that is always reassuring.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? tomorrow, but just a regular check up...I think I may be done with ultrasounds (which is still kind of crazy to me!)
EDIT: I must really have pg brain....until I read Ericka's post, I completely forgot to mention our upcoming babymoon to the Florida Keys!! Really looking forward to getting away & being back in a tropical place!
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? Maybe TMI, but I have discovered what Jenny McCarthy was talking about when she mentioned "passing stonehenge". I won't get into details, but seriously...is this supposed to prep me for labor or something? b/c this is downright unpleasant!!
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO? long before this babe was conceived Gwenyth Paltrow named her baby Apple. We were living in LA & as a joke, we said whenever we have a baby we should give it a celebrity name like Potato or something equally unique. I told that to my mom & Potato has stuck ever since!
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)? I plan to be on a "let's see how it goes" plan. I would love to do it for 6 months, but I will just take it one step at a time...first trying to make it a week, then 2 and so on. I will have to go back to work after 3 months so I am sure if I make it that long, it will get even harder then.
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (The list of questions I have from Lisa is getting a little short so ask away!)
maybe another questions for the mamas...is there anything you would do differently? more/less flexible birthplan? letting your parents/in-laws help more/less?
Good question! I am definitely interested in the mamas feedback! I registered this weekend & it just seemed like sooo much stuff. I can't imagine using/needing it all!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 18w3d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Still feeling great. Aside from the weight gain, I feel completely "normal". Also, I started feeling some movements :-).
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Big u/s on Friday and offf to babymoon on Saturday! Can't wait.
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? I didn't know there are are 3 different carseats (infant, convertible and booster)! lol.
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? None that I can think of.
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO? We just call him/her Baby Jarbs
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)? Ideally, I want to breastfeed for at least 6 months-1 yr. We'll see how it goes.
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? Don't know our baby's sex yet but this issue has crossed my mind. What's your opinion about circumcision? Will you get it done or not? Who made the ultimate decision - you or DH? In the Filipino culture, it's a given that all boys gets it done and sometimes they wait until puberty. Yikes.
Thanks for doing this Nicole!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? Jack is 13.5 weeks
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? finished a full week back to work. it's not so bad. Jack is getting big! from our home measurements he was 26" and 14.3lbs over the weekend.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? nothing.
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? How quickly LOs adjust. Jack was sad my first day back to work but by the 3rd day he was as happy as can be to hang out with MIL all day and he still gets the BIGGEST smile on his face as soon as me or DH get home.
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? I guess just going back to work. I had mentally prepared myself for my first day back, got through the first week and then felt bad about Monday coming around again. But Mon/Tues are my busy days so I get an instant reminder about why I like my job and do what I do. I also spent time decorating the whole place with pictures of Jack
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO? nope. One day he slobbered all over me and I called him the slobber monster and he cracked up laughing so we both say that to him to get him to laugh.
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)? longer than 1 year. probably 2? We will see how Jack does but I have no problem with extended BFing but personally I would hope to be mutually done around age 2.
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (The list of questions I have from Lisa is getting a little short so ask away!) sorry, i'm so bad at thinking of Qs.
Mamas: In retrospect, what BR items do you wish you didn't buy or feel you paid too much for? most of our stuff was gifts, so there are a few things I personally would not have bought but we have used them. The $60 FP precious planets activity gym was probably overkill, he likes the $35 infantino one much better. The light up bear on the FP one scares him to the point of tears so we don't even use that part. It is nice to have one on each floor of the house though.
I don't like the "cheap" travel stroller we bought. Not sure which it is but it was $50 at BRU and I registered for it so that we would have something to take on planes or for trips to the mall or something when we didn't want to use the BOB. The release button to fold is really hard to use and it doesn't ride very smooth. I still want a smaller stroller but may buy a nicer model.
BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers, link to your chart!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
5 months and some weeks? See my ticker.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I'm feeling good. Elyse started rolling (purposely) from her back to front. It's so cute because it's the only time she's quite. Normally she's chatting away.
She also had her first real temper tantrum this weekend. My mom was letting her play with and suck on her water glass and when she took it away Elyse FA-REAKED out. She started with crying then quickly escalated to high pitched screams of anger. It was quite interesting to see her have such strong emotions. Distraction with another toy didn't work so I left the room with her. I'm not really sure what I "should" have done?
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
We're going swimming again on Friday. I have to buy her a new bathing suit because she outgrew the old one.
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?
Elyse is such a chill baby. She loves to watch people. We were building a fence around our back yard this weekend and she loved sitting in her excersaucer watching us. She also loved to be worn in the baby trekker while I was raking. The fresh air and loads of stimulation made her extra sleepy, so she had more frequent naps.
I learned that you can still do stuff with your baby. Before the weekend I felt worried and unsure of how much I could help because I would be caring for Elyse, but she and I did just great!
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
Sleep. Still. With the fence building my Mom or MIL were sometimes left to care for Elyse while she was napping and they don't understand that she needs naps longer than 30 minutes. So this week we're doing some more sleep training to try to get her back into a better routine.
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO?
Elle, Little Honey, Cutie Bum, Little One, Grumplestiltskin (when she's being fussy), Munchkin, Munchybutt.
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)?
I don't really have any plans right now, I'm going to BF until it does't work for us anymore. I love it though! It's so convenient.
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (The list of questions I have from Lisa is getting a little short so ask away!)
1.) Is BFing babies with teeth difficult? How do you encourage them not to bite?
2.) What are you doing to get back into shape?
3) When to you plan to TTC again? How many kids do you want?
Mamas: In retrospect, what BR items do you wish you didn't buy or feel you paid too much for?
I regret buying so many yellow and green clothes (we didn't find out the sex). They NEVER got worn. My mom went out and bought everything pink at the Bay the day Elyse was born and Russ went out the next day to buy pink blankets etc. I will buy a few blue clothes for the next baby (in case it's a boy) and leave the tags on so I can take them back.
I regret getting a convertable crib. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but we're going to have another baby right away, so I'm not sure if we should buy another crib and convert the crib or what?
Married Bio
Oh I forgot about that! I like that I have lots of GN sleepwear (love the plain white sleepers from the gap and I also have lots of cute yellow, white, and aqua stripe ones form carters) but it was dumb to get any GN clothes because he had a full wardrobe (from my mom, (real) dad, and grandma) by the end of the day that he was born. My mom and grandma washed it all and put it away by the time we got home from the hospital.
Hi Nicole! Can you please add me to the list? EDD June 14, 2010 and it's a boy! Thanks!!
1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 37W4D
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feeling great, except for carpal tunnel. I'm constantly on the computer researching different baby products and reading up on stuff- I really need to lay off the computer
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? I have an appt. next Thursday. We've been going weekly now and so far no progress. This baby wants to stay in mommy's tummy!
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? I could possibly still have carpal tunnel after the baby is born b/c of all the picking up baby I'll be doing
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO?
My husband wants to call him "Mase" short for Mason. LOL, as if his name is not short enough!
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)? I plan to BF for at least 6 mos-1 year...I hope it works out!!
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (The list of questions I have from Lisa is getting a little short so ask away!) Can't think of any at the moment!
Nicole, could you add me to the list? My EDD is 7/17, and it's a boy. Thanks!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? I'm 32 1/2 weeks.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feeling pretty good, but definitely getting progressively uncomfortable. The belly is just getting in the way!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? In ~2 weeks, 6/7. I don't think there's anything too exciting coming up, although at this last appointment the doctor did check baby's position for the first time. Head down (I was pretty confident of that anyway, I had a feeling I was feeling his butt at the top of my belly).
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? A lot! DH and I went to the childbirth class at the hospital this past weekend, and we got a whole lot of information to absorb!
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Dealing with my own emotions. I'm a worrier, and I think I've made DH a worrier, and I just hope it's not affecting the baby too much.
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO? Nope, we just call him by his name.
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)? Would like to EBF as long as possible. I'm a little unsure about the logistics of pumping at work, but fortunately I'm taking 6 months off, so that will give me time to figure out what works best for me and the baby.
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? Sorry, I'm at work, so my brain is shot. I can't think of anything interesting to ask. I had a hard enough time thinking of responses to these questions!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
Elaine is 2 years, 8 months and one week.
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
DD has been very demanding this week. I have to remind her to say "please" anytime she asks for something. Oddly though, she always remembers to say thank you. Although it usually comes out as "sanks" or "aint you."
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO?
We call DD She-She. When she was little, my sister commented that if we had had a boy we could have named him Helaine instead of Elaine. I said that since she was a girl I guess we had a Shelaine. Shelaine then got shortened to She-She. Elaine is going to hate me when she's 10 and we still call her that!
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)?
My goal was to breastfeed for a year. Then at 8 months she started biting and was quickly weaned.
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (The list of questions I have from Lisa is getting a little short so ask away!) Maybe we could a PIP of the week with different themes... like bathtime pictures or DD/DS with their favorite toys. I love seeing everyone's LOs!
Mamas: In retrospect, what BR items do you wish you didn't buy or feel you paid too much for? Breast Pump. We spent $200 on the Medela Pump In Style and I maybe used it 3 times. DD refused to use a bottle, so pumping was kind of pointless. It's still sitting in our closet. You can't really resell pumps, so I have no idea what to do with it.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
DS is 6.5 months old. Some days *I* feel 65.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I'm fine. We started a bedtime routine this week (3 days straight), and that seems to be going rather well. He also scratches his belly sometimes when he wakes up and is lying on his back. It's SO cute!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
He had his 6 month appt the other week, but we go back on Friday for one more shot.
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?
That sometimes there is just NOTHING you can do to help them when they are teething! And that teaching him to fall asleep on his own is going to be a huge challenge.
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
teething. feeding him when all he wants to do is bite the spoon. trying to get him to sleep while one of us is not lying with him.
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO?
"Little Guy", but we've been trying to make a concerted effort to call him by his name so he learns that that's his name.
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)?
goal was to bf as long as possible, but I wanted to go at least 6 months. Mother nature had other plans.
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (The list of questions I have from Lisa is getting a little short so ask away!)
do you have a TV philosophy? how will you introduce LO to music? What do you sing (if anything) to LOs - either at bedtime or other times? How do you feel about strangers coming up to you and touching your baby when out on a walk or at a store? How do you handle that? When do conversations b/t you and YH become more than just talk about the baby?
Mamas: In retrospect, what BR items do you wish you didn't buy or feel you paid too much for?
This is hard to say, b/c so much of it depends on your LO. He has used everything to some extent, except the PnP. It smells kinda funky, but it was a hand me down (or maybe it's on loan?), so we haven't used it much. Maybe we'll use it more when he can move around on his own?
I wish I would have bought more storage bins, which of course I can do now, if I had somewhere to put them. He grows out of clothes so quickly!
BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers, link to your chart! see blog
This. This should SO exist, but I'm sure it doesn't because then how would the bottle companies make their money.
Got it! I just added you. BTW, your EDD is 2 days before my brother's birthday! My brother ended up being born on Father's Day. Maybe your LO will, too!
I've added you, too, Natalie! And guess what? Your EDD is 1 day after my dad's birthday.
Looking at the listing, there are quite a few of us who are due within days of one another. How exciting!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
she's 6 months and 2 weeks, give or take
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I already posted, but she said MAMA!!!
she said it again today when i picked her up and it just melted my heart. made me feel so much better about not sleeping much last night
we're continuing on w/the rice cereal and she is taking to it really well. yesterday was only the 2nd time i gave it to her and she ate like a champ! she was lunging forward toward the spoon so much so that her body was so angled forward i had to stop and try and get her to sit up straight LOL she tries to grab the spoon too to self feed. i'm going to try some steamed veggies and see if she will eat those, if not we'll do purees
she is scooting a lot on her tummy and starting to bring her knees under her a little. shouldn't be long before she is crawling.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
this Sat she goes in for a late 6 month visit
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?
motrin lasts longer than tylenol does
and apparently they make teething tablets!
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
getting used to sleep deprivation again LOL. the last 4 nights we've been on a "newborn" schedule and it's been rough on me.
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO?
we have lots... we call her monkey, lil monkey, munchkin, peanut, miss A
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)?
well, before she was born my goal was 1 yr
after she was born it was 6 weeks...once i made it to 6 weeks my next goal was 6 months....now that we're past 6 months my next goal is 8 months... i think having the smaller goals makes it more manageable...ultimately i still want to try to BF for at least 1 yr but we'll just have to see how it goes...i'm worried about my supply dropping before then just b/c i can't keep up w/the increased caloric intake my body needs, but w/the addition of solids to her diet i'm hoping we'll be ok
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (The list of questions I have from Lisa is getting a little short so ask away!)
favorite baby toys? books?
Mamas: In retrospect, what BR items do you wish you didn't buy or feel you paid too much for?
nothing really, as we got really great prices on most things, either on sale or secondhand.
i probably bought too many washcloths (2-3 is plenty since we do laundry all the time w/the CDs), but those were bought used and can be used as baby wipes instead....and i shouldn't have bought ANY blankets for her b/c we got a million of them as gifts

This is a good thing to know! Thanks for sharing!!
One thing I should add is that I learned that Camillia works better than the highlands teething tablets for us.

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
17w5d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I've been feeling pretty good! We had our big u/s on Monday and are thrilled to find out we are having a healthy baby boy! After the u/s, we had an appt with our OB/GYN. We got to hear the heartbeat again, my fundal height was measuring good at 19cm, and the results of our quad marker blood test all came back normal. I don't think I've felt him move yet. I've been feeling little sensations here and there, but I'm not sure if it's baby or just gas or other twinges. I am really looking forward to feeling him move...it will be big reassurance for us that everything's okay in there!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Our next check-up is in 4 weeks on June 21st.
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?
Baby was moving around a lot during our u/s. Watching him on the screen made me feel like he's already got his own personality.
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
Haha...you all are probably sick of hearing about my nursery hang-up.
After reading all of your responses to my post yesterday, I'm feeling much better about things and think I can move on now.
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO?
I personally have just been calling him "baby". MH has been calling him a particular boy's name ever since we got our BFP, long before we found out we are indeed having a boy. Maybe I'll share the name later on as I'm not 100% sure yet that we are going with that name.
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)?
I hope to BF for 1 year. We'll see how that goes! I'll try to make it work, but I also don't want to stress out too much about it.
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (The list of questions I have from Lisa is getting a little short so ask away!)
Thanks for posting all of your questions, everyone! I'll add them to my list.
BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers, link to your chart!
I didn't take a photo yet this week! Maybe I'll get MH to take one this afternoon.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
14w4d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
I'm feeling good. Still feel like i'm not sleeping enough, but I've been happy that I've been sleeping for 5 hours in a row before having to get up to pee/drink more water, instead of getting up every 3 hours. i want my sleep before LO comes
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
6/8, for appointment and some blood follow-up to NT scan - all regular stuff
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week?
Hrm...my mom recommended that we find a daycare near our house, not near my work, like i had been planning. In case I'm sick and need to stay home, it'd be easy for MH to drop the baby off and pick up if it's by our house; would be really out of the way for him if it's by my work.
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
pregnancy brain. i could not remember MH's birthday! needed it for our loan application, the mortgage broker joked that he hoped i had remembered my salary correctly, sigh. then later that day, i rear-ended an suv. we were stopped at a light, it turned green, he started going, went a few feet, then stopped again - and i wasn't paying enough attention. thankfully, i hit his hitch - his suv was completed unscathed, and he brushed it off. my hood didn't fare so well. i was nervous, but have been feeling fine, thank goodness - no cramping, etc. and then the next day i was driving to work, missed a turn, and went for like, 10-15 blocks before i realized i had no idea where i was. sigh.
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO?
we've been calling the baby "boc" since shortly after we got the BFP - it was short for "bundle of cells", even though it's much more than a bundle of cells now!
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)?
goal is 6 months or more, but i reserve the right to change my mind
i'm one of those who never had a single drop of breastmilk,
and i think i turned out fine - so if things don't work out, i hope i
won't give myself too much of a hard time
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (The list of questions I have from Lisa is getting a little short so ask away!)
what are your favorite books for baby? either ones you loved as a child, or ones your LO(s) loves now. ...i want to start building up a library!if you CD, how did you choose which CD's to use/try? tips for being successful with CD? (i've bookmarked a ton of links from previous threads, need to start reading. but any "getting started" tips would be great!)
how did you decide on a vaccination schedule? best resources to learn more?
any cravings or changes in food preferences while you were/are PG?
...will try to think of more!
BONUS: PIP of your bump or LO or for TTCers, link to your chart!
I don't have a single photo yet of my i-ate-too-many-cookies belly. MH did say out of the blue over the weekend that we should start taking belly shots (which i thought was cute) - just need to actually do it now!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 26w3d
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Still feeling really good. The round ligament pain has let up a bit but I have a bit of sciatica on my right side and notice it when I get up out of a chair/out of bed. Other than that our boy is kicking up a storm and I love it
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Next Tuesday for my regular check-up and our 3D U/S is booked for next weekend.
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? The round ligament pain
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Not sure but I feel like my pace is a lot slower than before, I used to be a really fast walker :P
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO? Lately MH has been calling him our 'little guy'
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)? Going to give it my all, no set expectations at this point.
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (The list of questions I have from Lisa is getting a little short so ask away!) If I think of any I will send them your way!

I love Hawaii!
Tara & Ian . 4/24/2008 . The Kahala Planning . Married
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 5 weeks and 1 day (yeah I know my ticker is off).
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Not bad. I've been getting more sleep lately - well until last night lol - which has helped my outlook on life! Milestones...the boys are now REALLY into batting the toys on their playmat, which is cool - it's so fun now that they're more interactive!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 6 week check-up, which is pretty standard. They're getting their 2 month vaccinations then (a bit early but all of the doctors in my area are recommending getting them at 6 weeks because we have a massive whooping cough outbreak in our area right now) and I'm not looking forward to that.
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? That babies aren't predictable. They slept for 6 solid hours, 2 nights in a row, to the sound of rain. And then woke up all frigging night long last night, also to the sound of rain. What gives?!?
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Getting enough sleep lol! No seriously, it has been. There were some days this week where I thought I was literally going to have a mental breakdown because I couldn't get enough sleep.
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO? I call Dash "Dashie" and "Turtle" (random but he makes this funny face where he looks like a turtle). I call Will "my sweet William" and "my special little guy", both of which are probably a bit on the long side lol.
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)? Currently, just to make it through my prescription of domperidone, which will take us to 6 weeks. If we've made big strides by then, then I'll keep pursuing BFing and try to make it to 6 months. If we haven't...well, we'll see.
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? What age did you/will you start a bedtime routine at? Are you planning on doing a regular vaccination schedule or something different? Do you have any favorite childhood toys/items that you'll be passing onto your LO?
Mamas: In retrospect, what BR items do you wish you didn't buy or feel you paid too much for? Hmm. We actually didn't buy much outside of the necessities, and I bargain shopped like a mofo to get the best deals! I suppose maybe our crib bedding sets? I don't wish we didn't buy them, but they're probably the only thing that wasn't necessary, and while they were relatively inexpensive compared to a lot of crib sets they weren't cheap either. But then I love how fun they look in the room, so...meh!
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? She had a 102.6 fever and a whole-body rash! Turned out it was Roseola. But I had to take her home in the middle of the day and take a sick day to stay home with her.(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO? Pumpkin
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)? As long as I can... 1 year at the most.Mamas: In retrospect, what BR items do you wish you didn't buy or feel you paid too much for? Tons...1 - Swing. We barely used it. TG it was a gift. Or maybe we should have gotten a better one... Everyone I know has the Fisher price lamb swing and that one seems to be a winner. We had the Boppy swing and it was barely used.2 - Sterilizer. Thought it would save us having to run the dishwasher but it was too complicated so we never used it.3 - Tummy Tub. Alexa was too big for it by the time we got it so she only used it maybe 3 times.4 - Kate Spade diaper bag. It was expensive and I did use it, but I love my Storksak bag so much bettter.5 - Long sleeve sleepsacks & velcro swaddleme sacks --- Miracle blanket and short sleeve sleep sacks are so much better!6 -- Expensive take me home outfit... I love it.... But I probably paid too much for it. Oh well!7 -- Any towels or blankets that I bought... We got a TON as gifts! Same goes for clothes and books and toys.8 -- Fancy burp cloths. I much preferred the plain white ones!9 -- Grobag sleepsacks. I like the Halo ones better and they are cheaper. 10 -- Peg Perego car seat, should have gotten Graco b/c it's cheaper and just as nice and safeBEST BUYS: Lamb Infant Bouncer; Infantino Twist & Fold Activity Mat; doorway bouncer; Leap Frog Musical Table; plastic cups; Winkle; Sophie; oball; plastic keys; video monitor; Mimi the Sardine Spill Mat; Bumpkins bibs are the best; Discovery pyramid with mirror; music mobile; miracle blanket; sleep sacks; Teething bling; Going to Bed Book; white onesies; plain white burp cloths; snap & go stroller; baby carrier; Boogie wipes; JJ Cole Bundleme; Paci clip; bottle brush; bottle drying rack; sterilizer wipes; Baby Legs!

(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Vaccinations in a couple weeks
(4) What is one BR thing that you learned this week? Clogged ducts really, really suck.
(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Still working on the sleep thing at night. He goes 2.5-3.5 hours at a time and somewhat of a routine going, but it'd be nice if he slept a little longer.
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO? Little man, bud
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)? Would love to go a year, but it's a lot of work and sometimes painful, so only time will tell...Mamas: In retrospect, what BR items do you wish you didn't buy or feel you paid too much for?
I would suggest searching second-hand shops or thinking about what you'll get as hand-me-downs before going nutz-o with the baby buys. So many things are outgrown while they're still in great shape. Plus, that way, even if something turns out to be unnecessary, it's no big loss.
Things we (personally) didn't need: *An infant sling (just sold both of mine on CL. We mainly use the Bjorn and Moby)*Too many NB clothes (They were outgrown so fast, and a lot of times we just had him naked in a diaper b/c it's so hot here. One pack of snap tees and onesies and maybe two "cute" outfits would have sufficed.)*Infant car seat/carrier. It was a hand-me-down, so I'm glad we didn't buy it. We don't use it to carry him around, just as a car seat, and since I bought a Marathon convertible, that would have worked just fine. I find it so much easier to carry him in the Moby or Bjorn when we go out -- the infant seat is just too heavy and bulky for me to maneuver.*Relatedly, I didn't need the infant car seat stroller thing. I'm selling that too since we "wear" him most places.

Wait on the Pump
Wait on the Stroller
You can wait on most things, actually
Unless people want to buy them for you as gifts!

Oh, I agree with this 100%. I tihnk people jump the gun too quickly (us being one of them) and buy stuff without knowing what you'll need, what will soothe your baby, etc. We spent a lot of money on a stroller that worked for about 6-7 months and now we don't use it anymore because Brooke hates to be strapped down. So we had to buy another stroller.
Some other purchases we didn't use were the swing (she HATED it but loved the bouncer) and baby carriers. She just didn't like it.
Next time around I think we'll wait on a LOT of things

(5) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
(6) Do you have a special nickname for your LO?
Cashew!
(7) What are your breastfeeding goals/plans (if any)?
I want to breastfeed. Haven't started reading about it yet, any tips?
(8) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? (The list of questions I have from Lisa is getting a little short so ask away!)
Will think of some.
I got an inexpensive manual (Avent Isis for $35 at Walgreens) at first...just in case I needed to pump for engorgement, etc. (although I found that hand expressing in the shower worked fine for this). I didn't but the FreeStyle until we were about 6 weeks in and I felt confident that BFing would work for us.
We were gifted with both the swing and the bouncer. Libby LOVES her swing and in the beginning, it was one of the only places she'd nap without us holding/wearing her. Total life saver. She still loves that swing! The bouncy was okay...she's already outgrown it (too long for it) and she never really loved it (she'd let us put her in it for about 10 minutes so we could eat, or clean up or whatever).
