When did you stop using a swing?

I ask because I bought a brand new swing and within two months the motor was dead.  Then I borrowed a new one from a friend and it didn't have enough power to even swing them (and my smallest is only 14 pounds).  So will I still use one long enough to go buy a new one when they are over 4 months old?  And am I just having bad luck or are there only certain ones that really work?

Re: When did you stop using a swing?

  • We just stopped using ours on a daily basis this week. I still keep one out in case someone is fussy.

  • Different for every baby.  We RARELY used one for DS1, he was never a fan.  We use them constantly for the twins though (they nap in them and start the night in them, we take them to bed when we go to bed).

  • My babies have never been a big fan of the swing OR the bouncy. It might keep them entertained for 20 mintues max but it was kind of a waste of money IMO. People kept saying the swing/bouncy would be a lifesaver. Save the money for something else...
  • We stopped right before 5 months, mine only napped in them and I wanted them napping their cribs so we quit. They didn't like being awake and in them so I sold them when they were around 6 months.

  • we still use it daily. although i have chunkers who are dangerously close to the weight limit (25 lbs). and you are having bad luck. we have a FP hand me down one that still works. and for a few months there i would say the thing was on 8 hours a day with them taking turns in it.
  • We used ours up until 6 months for naps and sometimes a little at night.  We used the Fisher-Price Papasan swings.  We had the motor go out on one of them, and the company sent a new one.  Hopefully, you can call and get one too.  The motor should not be going out that fast!

  • I stopped around 4 months with ds...he was starting to sit up in it by himself, even with him strapped in...he would fall forward and not be able to sit back : (

plus he liked napping in it and that was about the time we started sleep training for naps and transitioning all naps to crib.

I would say not worry about BUT I would contact the company and tell them to send you a new motor. The motor should not die that quickly : /
