Weaning from pumping...

I have been pumping since LO was born but am weaning now because my supply is very low and I've tried fenugreek, oatmeal, power pumping, nothing is working so I've decided to throw in the towel and move on.  My question is... I have slowly reduced pumping sessions over the last two weeks to where I'm now only doing it once a day/once every other day.  I'm still filling back up slightly so don't know if I need to keep pumping to drain the breasts, but then it seems they won't "dry up".  Anyone have experience with this who knows what to do?

Re: Weaning from pumping...

  • If you drain them you are telling your body you still need that milk. Just pump enough to relieve any engorgement/pain you may be having, and nothing more.

This....within a few days of little or no pumping your body will start producing less milk.

  • As PP stated, only pump enough to relieve discomfort. Also, you can use raw cabbage leaves to help with reducing milk production. Just stick them in the fridge to get them cold (helps with the uncomfortable feeling of engorgement)  and then stick them in your bra.
