Leather Teether?

My son just turned 9 months.  He has 5 teeth right now and have been pretty reasonable about his teething.  However, he just loves chewing on things, and the usual plastic teething rings just aren?t cutting it for him. There?s nothing he likes better than chewing on leather - be it my cellphone case, my husband watch band, or his wallet.  These things aren?t really convenient or safe though.  Do you have ideas for alternative teethers? I was so tempted to give him a leather doggy chew strap, until I heard they?re cured with formaldehyde?. Help!!

Unless you know of a tannery that doesn't cure with formaldehyde, I think you're gonna have to hide all leather from him. Is it the smell of leather that attracts him, or the texture? Stupid question, considering we're talking about a baby, but maybe see if you can find something a lil safer with the same texture and see if he'll take to that instead? If it's the smell of leather... well, that can't be helped, I guess. I personally love the smell of leather, but that's just me!
