Houston Babies

Uh-oh, we are "those" parents...

You know, the ones who are at the doctor's office every 2 weeks. Yep, that is what we have become. The sad part is that DH doesn't go since I am still on leave (at least until next Tuesday), so I am the one who gets all the fun. I just hate this because he has certain questions he wants asked, and I don't seem to "push enough to get good answers."

I need to just get over feeling like I am being judged for bringing him in all the time. I can't help it that he had jaundice, reflux, and now he sleeps a lot and doesn't want to eat. And him starting to not take a bottle isn't an option since I start back to work and he will be at daycare.

So I made yet another appointment for tomorrow. I know I am trying to do the best for my baby, and if that makes me feel like they think I am  a hypochondriac, so be it. Mind you, no one has said this to me, this is just how I feel. I guess I have a huge chip on my shoulder.

  • Don't worry about it.  I felt like I was always at the doctor with Avery (granted she was rashy) for one thing or another.  They shouldn't make you feel like you are being judged and if they are making you feel that way, then they suck.

I think you are just being a normal Mom.

  • Don't even stress about it!  I was the same way and felt the same way.  And then once we figured out the whole feeding thing (hypoallergenic formula for us), it tapered off a lot.  I seriously felt like we were at the pedi all.the.time for the first 8 or so weeks.  I even told his pedi that, and she said that the beginning can just be so hard, and you're so unsure of things.  I think it's very normal to be there a lot right now while you're figuring everything out, especially with the reflux.  Just keep following whatever your gut is even if that means you're at the pedi a lot.  You're doing a great job!
After 2 years and 6 IUIs, we did it with IVF w/ ICSI!
    BFP with no treatment!

  • there was literally a 6 month stretch of time where i was at the doctor almost every week with one kid or the other. mathis once saw my pedi 3 weeks in a row. they expect it. it's hard with babies- they can't tell us what's wrong and concerns like not eating or fever are serious for babies, even though they usually work out to be nothing. still, it's always **always** better safe than sorry.

The nurse made a comment that I was "too laid back" at our one year appt because we had never had a sick visit.  You can't win either way.  Don't worry about it (but maybe I am just saying that because I am "too laid back"....ugh!)

  • I totally feel like that too, it's almost embarrassing in a way but then I wonder, why am I embarrassed??  We've been there LOTS and my LO is 7 months--he's had 3 ear infections and weird, hard-to-diagnose rashes.  Oh the fun.  I think he's starting to look forward to watching Finding Nemo in the waiting room...
  • You're doing what's best for your baby and I agree with V- it's always better safe than sorry and I am sure your pedi would rather you be there all the time then miss something.

I feel like I call too much. Our pedi is really great about answering my question on the spot when I call (instead of the nurse calling me back an hour later or something) so I call practically every week with some question or another. So in a way, I too am that parent and I don't care one bit. I could care less if they laugh at me or call me names, so long as my child is healthy and I have peace of mind.

  • I swear ds goes to the pedi at least once a month for a sick visit.   He has not had a "well visit" since he was 9 months old because he's always in there sick with one thing or another.

  • Well, I've taken Elena 4 times to the pediatrician in 2 months because her thrush reappears. What can I do? I follow the pediatrician instructions to the letter, and the darn thing always come back.

If you've done everything you're supposed to do, there's no reason to feel bad.
