I know a bunch of us were wondering early on if going to the dentist was safe in first tri. I just came from my dentist appointment and they say that having a cleaning is perfectly safe but they won't take X-rays or do major surgery. My dentist also warned me about pregnancy gingivitis, which he said can start as any small condition and quickly blow up thanks to our raging hormones. Just FYI for everyone
Re: Dentist heads up
Just to add to that, some dental plans allow an extra cleaning if you're pregnant. Something to check out...
And since dental and vision go hand in hand, you can't have your eyes dilated while pregnant. At least my ophthalmologist wouldn't dilate my eyes when I was pregnant because he said that drops are not proven to be safe. If you have an appointment, you might want to call and ask if you should keep it.
DH is a dentist and he's really on me about flossing now. And yes, unless it is an emergency situation, he won't do x-rays or major work on a pregnant woman.
My eye Dr. won't do dilations either but also your eyes can change during pregnancy so your prescription may be off.

PgAL/PAL Welcome
Any advice about fillings or crowns? Are they considered major? Three weeks before I found out I was pregnant, my dentist advised me to get two crowns replaced because they are old and *could* be leaking. I'll obviously consult my dentist about this, but does your DH have any advice in the meantime?
