Things not to get while pregnant...

The poisen ivy is just not worth it while pregnant.  I have never had it before (and I know I have pulled it before in the garden last year with no problems).

Last week I noticed it in a small spot on my leg and called my OB/GYN and he said to take benadryl...it spread like a wild fire over the week now I am on prednisone because not only is it on that spot on my leg its on my arms, my stomach, my legs, my feet, my fingers....and the real kicker my face....  NICE!

I ITCH I ITCH I ITCH...this is not cool!

  • Sorry.  That does not sound like fun!

  • Oh no!  Feel better.  I think someone else on this board posted recently that they have poison ivy too!  I can't remember who it was, though...
  • Bummer!!!

I get poison ivy every year (really bad, too) this year I got it shortly after the snow all melted which I was shocked about- you can get it from the stems and roots of the plant, not just the leaves!!

Heres a tip- wash anything and everything that might have come in contact with the plant, the oil can stick to everything for a looooong time (even your pets!!!) so you can keep re-infecting yourself without knowing it.

hang in there! oh, and lots of benadryl cream and mint tea!!  =]

  • Did you OB say you could use calamine lotion? I know that stuff worked wonders for me with chicken pox so I assume it will work well with poison ivy as well (I never had poison ivy so I don't know. sorry!)
  • Ask your pharmacist for Zanfel. It's OTC but pricey. I thought it was totally worth it when I had poison oak last year. It's a scrub and provides temporary relief. You should ask though of course if it's safe to use while PG. GL! I hope you start feeling better! I know how miserable that can be!
