cervix and dilation?

I have been diagnosed with an incompetent cervix at my appointment last Monday I was 2cm dilated and 50% effaced unfortunately I will not be getting checked at my weekly appointment tomorrow because my doctor is on vacation for the week. Anyways my question is how far dilated can I get before I am forced to stay in the hospital and do they induce labor once you get a certain percent dilated? I am confused since I am not having contractions that I know of just dilating from pressure.

Re: cervix and dilation?

  • It probably all depends on how far away you live from the hospital, how far along you are, if your baby is head down or not, etc.

As far as induction, most hospitals have a policy not to actively manage a patient (artificial rupture of membrane, pitocin) before term unless they are at least 6-7 cm.Β  This is only speaking for patients in preterm labor or with IC.Β  So you're still way far away from that.

They might want you in the hospital after you reach 4 cm....but again...too many variables to know. Β

    Good luck!

  • I was hospitalized for 5 days for PTL then put on bedrest till I reached 35wks (today). I was dilated 3cm before they finally got my meds straightened out and got the contractions to stop. They would not release me from the hospital till the contractions stopped.. Well for the most part!
