Babies: 3 - 6 Months

is there a generic version of Dreft?

My l/o has sensitive skin (Eczema) and I have to use Dreft to wash clothes, is there any substitue that is on the market that I can use that is perhaps cheaper?  Thanks!

some grocery stores have a store brand.  I just buy a jug whenever BRU has a $5 off coupon.  I'm only on my 2nd jug of it & I have 3 more in my closet!

  • I would use a generic free and clear type detergent.

Dreft actually has quite a bit of fragrance and other chemical junk in it.  Our pedi specifically recommends against using it for that reason.

I buy an organic kind at COSTCO that is fragrance and dye free. And it's cheaper per fl. oz than dreft. Check the ingredient list.

This chart is meant for cloth diaper care but it should help you pick a detergent that will work for you... it lists whether each kind has dyes, brighteners, etc.

This is what I recently did- got the grocery store's brand. Works just fine.

i 3rd this!  if it still seems bad(which is unlikely) do the rinse cycle twice before drying the clothes

We get this too.  You get a huuuge bottle for a pretty good price (way cheaper than Dreft).  In the last few months it's also been in the Costco coupons a couple of times, saving even more $$.

  • Target makes an Up & Up version of Dreft. It's what I use.
  • This is what I got and it works just fine.

You should also try Halo's Technical Comfort clothing.  It's made for babies with sensitive skin and eczema (it's approved by the National Eczema Association).  The fabric is very soft and breathable, and it's supposed to reduce itching and irritation.
