Where do we begin?

Hello Ladies,

This is my first post on this board! ?God has laid it on my and my husband's heart to adopt a child. ?We have 3 biological children (our youngest is only a month old!), and we are seriously considering adopting our 4th. ?I'm just not sure how to begin this process. ?We think that domestic adoption would be the best fit for us, and we think we would like an older baby/toddler (maybe between 1-2 1/2 yrs old). ?We live in Ohio. ?I'd prefer to adopt from a christian organization, if possible, but I just have no idea where or how to start. ?I'd appreciate any advice anyone could give me! TIA :-)

I would recommend a beginner book like Adoption for Dummies. It goes through the things to think about in adoption, the types of adoption (domestic, foster/adopt, international), the ways to go about it (agency, facilitator, law firm), and really helps you figure out what is the best choice for you and your family.

At that point you can start researching specific agencies/facilitators/firms. You can look in your area, or there are some that operate nationwide or regionally. Some have informational seminars that allow you to go in person or sometimes on the phone to get basic information on adoption and how they go about it.

And keep asking questions here. It's a great group of women who are a wonderful resource.
