let the eczema fun begin...

We use aquaphor at night w/ lots of success, but I need an OTC rec for something to help w/ the itching during the day.  It breaks my heart for her to scratch behind her knees and say "oooowwwwieeeee" all the time.  I have a call in to the pedi, but they said it would be monday before I heard back.

TIA

  • I don't know that it helps with the itching, but CeraVe has basically cleared DD's body. Her face is an ongoing battle but her body now looks great. We use CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser in the bath and slather her down with CeraVe Moisturizing Cream right after the bath (while she's still damp) and a couple times throughout the day. We have a few prescription things as well, but the CeraVe can be found OTC. CVS has it out on the shelves and Target has it behind the counter in the pharmacy.

  • Yup, we have used CeraVe per BeckO's recommendation (mostly for his face since it is the only place eczema shows up now).  For his body we have been using Eucerin calming cream 2x per day (before getting dressed in the am, and right after bath/wipe down).  I'm not sure what to do about the itching though - can you use any kind of OTC anti-itch cream?

    which was per our dermatologist's recommendation. :)

  • thanks guys, I'm going to check that stuff out!
  • I'm liking Triple Cream (from the makers of Triple Paste) for DD's face. I just started using it though--it does take the red out almost instantly, but the rough texture is still there. I may try CeraVe (or however it's spelled)--where can I find it? Is it OTC?

    It is OTC. The only places I've found it so far have been CVS (on the shelves) and behind the counter at the Target pharmacy (but you don't need a prescription).  HEB and Walgreen's don't carry it.

    If you are going to use the moisturizer, make sure you get the cream that comes in a tub. :)

  • Have you heard of or tried clothing from Halo called Technical Comfort?  It's made of CoolMax fabric (similar to UnderArmour) to help reduce itching and irritation and is approved by the National Eczema Association.  The fabric is very soft and breathable, and even has SPF 30.
