I saw the midwife today and I realized that I like her so much better than my regular OB. I basically re-asked her a lot of the questions that I asked my OB 2 weeks ago and I like her answers much better. She confirmed what he said regarding the IV and fetal monitoring: they're put the IV in my arm just in case they end up needing it, but I won't be hooked up to anything and I won't be hooked up to the EFM, instead they will just do intermittent checks. The OB told me that he'll only let me go until 41 weeks before scheduling an induction. She told me that she'll let me go to 42. She said to make sure to schedule my appointments at the end with her, which I certainly will after hearing that!
One thing that I learned today was that no hospital in the Philly area will deliver a breech baby vaginally. She said that if I hit 37 weeks and the baby wasn't in position that they would do an aversion if I wanted, but at that point if I opted not to have it or it didn't work, they automatically schedule a c-section. The good news is that unless this baby pulls some acrobatics now, I don't have to worry about it. Baby C is currently in the head down position. S/he is also supposedly about 4 pounds and the heartbeat is 150 BPM.
She told me that the best advice that she can give me in order to manage the natural birth is to stay home as long as I possibly can tolerate. She told me not to leave my house until I knew that I absolutely had to go to the hospital. This was already my plan, but she just reinforced it for me. I'm really hoping that when it comes down to it that I don't panic.
I feel really good after today's appointment!
One funny: on my way back to the office a random woman on the street asked me if I was having a boy. I told her that I didn't know. She responded, "oh, that's definitely a boy in there!" I love random strangers on the street!
Re: appointment today
I'm glad things went well and the midwife and you had a good connection.
Too funny about the stranger on the street! People are full of opinions, aren't they?
It sounds like you had a great appointment! I'm glad you feel more comfortable with the midwife!
Isn't it great that our babies are already in place for their appearance?
As for the lady on the street, didn't you too have an inkling that it is a boy?
Yes, that is what me and DH *feel* but we don't tell anyone that IRL. I've only revealed that on here. I think that if I said that IRL, people would think that's what we wanted and that we'd be unhappy if it was a girl, which is not the case at all! I hope that makes sense.
That absolutely makes sense. I'm glad you like the MW!
Ffrom earlier hump day bump day posts I thought you were having a girl, but since this past week's I'm feeling more boy now
