I have a really stupid question

Flame me if you want to, but this is just something I was wondering about.

How dialated is it possible to be before you have to go into labor?

I know I am at 5 and there is another bumpie that is at 6, but I cant imagine that it is possible to just be walking around at 9 cm and still not be in labor. I think I am just starting to get paranoid that my uterus will never start contracting, but does anyone know anything about this?

    I think all kind of factors play into actual labor.  It isn't just how far you have dialted.  I believe you can be hardly dialtated at all and go into labor or be dialted 8cm and not be in labor.  But I guess I am not sure.

    I didn't even know that you could walk around dialated 5 or 6 cm. I was dialated 3cm with my DD1 for a couple of weeks before my due date and I have always heard that if you're 4cm dialated and you go to the hospital you'll get admited. I guess it all depends on how far along you are and if you're having contractions or not.

    I can't imagine being 9cm and not being in labor either....

    I can't imagine walking around at a 5 or a 6 and not being in labor. My doc sends patients to the hospital past a 4 to begin to induce contractions.

    I have been wondering this also I am 2cm dilated 50% effaced station -1 and we are trying to prevent labor but I was curious about the same thing.

    Usually if you show up at L&D and are 4cm or more you stay no matter what.  If you start to feel any sort of pressure I'd head to L&D immediately cause you never know.

    I went in to my 38 week appointment and found out i was 5 cm. I thought i was just have a few BH contractions. I ended up not having any painful contractions till they broke my water at 9 cm.(I was still walking around feeling normal) If i hadn't had an appointment that day I could have ended up having her at home by myself because there were no signs. So it is possible
